New Town Tornagrain Gets Go Ahead From Highland Councillors
19th September 2012
A proposal to build a new town to accommodate up tp 10,000 residents in over 4000 new homes to be built over a 30 - 40 year period finally got the go ahead today
The proposals relate to the creation of a new community on 259 hectares of land on the A96(T) just to the north east of Tornagrain and south of Inverness Airport.
It is envisaged that the town will have a population of around 10,000 when built out over an estimated 30-40 year period. A master plan supporting the proposal indicates that development will be progressed on a phased basis with the first phases centred on the existing A96(T) - Croy road. There will be seven main phases with development undertaken in smaller sub-phases.
An earlier planning meeting has approved the application but this was challenged by a group of councillors claiming no vote had been taken. At today's meeting the vote taken showed 17 for the application and only 3 against.
Moray Estates Development Company Ltd, the applicant wil now move to prepare detailed plans for the early stages of the development which is expected to create many new construction jobs.
