Drug-related Death Statistics 2020 In Scotland - Worst Ever
Drugs Policy Minister Angela Constance has described the increase in drug-related deaths as "heart-breaking", and reiterated the Scottish Government's determination to continue its work to address the crisis.   National Records of Scotland figures show there were 1,339 deaths, an increase of 5% on 2019 and the highest figure on record.

£1m To Tackle Social Isolation And Loneliness
Projects supporting carers and disabled people are among nine initiatives that are set to share £1 million to tackle loneliness and isolation as a result of the pandemic.   It comes as part of a £10 million commitment to support a new five-year social isolation and loneliness plan, and marks the delivery of a commitment for the first 100 days of this government.

Information For Voters Ahead Of Highland Council By-elections - Caithness and Inverness
Polling will take place on Thursday 12 August to elect one of five candidates standing in The Highland Council's Wick and East Caithness ward and one of seven candidates standing in the Inverness West ward.  The deadline to register to take part and to apply for a postal vote has passed so the Council is reminding voters to make sure they are ready to make their vote count.

Significant Easing Of Restrictions For Fully Vaccinated Travellers From The EU And US
Fully vaccinated people from the EU and US will be able to travel to Scotland without quarantining from Monday (2 August 2021).   The need for travellers to self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival in Scotland is being waived subject to countries covered remaining on the amber travel list.

Emergency Response To Drug Overdose
Almost two thirds of Scotland's ambulance clinicians have been trained in supplying Take-Home Naloxone (THN) to people who may witness an overdose.   The roll-out of Take-Home Naloxone, which can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, is being overseen by three Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) Drug Harm Reduction Leads covering the North, East and West of Scotland, funded by the Drug Deaths Taskforce.

The Highland Council's Garden Waste service for 2021/22 starts on Wednesday 1 September 2021 and customers have until Monday 2 August to order their permits to ensure delivery in time for the first collections of the new service year.   The service will run to 31 August 2022, with a winter break in the months of December, January and February.

Young Scots Work Promise
Young people looking to enter the workforce will benefit from £70 million of investment from the Scottish Government.   The Young Person's Guarantee aims to protect people from the economic impact of COVID-19 by offering every 16-24 year old in Scotland the opportunity of a job, apprenticeship, further or higher education, training programme or volunteering.

Council Advises People To Prepare Following Met Office Warning - Possible Flooding
The Met Office has issued a warn for potential power outages and flash flooding affecting the Highlands over the next few days so the message from Highland Council is "be prepared".   The Met Office yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms covers the whole Highlands and is in place from today until Thursday 29 July.

Heavy rain and flooding expected.   Members of the public are being warned of a high risk of disruption in large parts of mainland Scotland with thunderstorms and heavy rain forecast by the Met Office.
