The European Space Agency has given the green light to the world's first space telescope dedicated to studying how exoplanet atmospheres form and evolve.   Its mission is to understand the links between a planet's chemistry and its environment by charting approximately 1,000 known planets outside our own Solar System, arming scientists with a full picture of what exoplanets are made of, how they were formed and how they will evolve.

Avian influenza protection measures
An Avian Influenza Prevention Zone applying to all of Scotland has been declared.  It introduces stringent biosecurity measures for all bird keepers (including those who keep pet birds) to help prevent the spread of avian influenza from wild birds or any other source.

Immigration Act receives Royal Assent: free movement to end on 31 December 2020
The Immigration Act has on (Wednesday 11 November 2020) received Royal Assent and been signed into law.   This means free movement will end around seven weeks from now, at 11pm on 31 December 2020.

Scottish Budget Date Agreed
The Scottish Government's budget will be published on 28 January 2021, Finance Secretary Kate Forbes has announced.   It follows the UK Government's decision to postpone its Autumn Budget until an unspecified date in the new year.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (November, 12th) sold 1,944 store sheep.   Lambs (1,305) averaged £55.15 and sold to £89 gross for a Dorset lamb from Knockdee Farm, Halkirk.

New Bill will modernise government's powers to investigate and intervene in potentially hostile foreign direct investment.   The National Security and Investment Bill will strengthen the UK's ability to investigate and intervene in mergers, acquisitions and other types of deals that could threaten our national security.

Affordable Housing For Rural And Island Communities
Funding extended beyond March 2021.   A five-year programme to fund affordable housing projects in rural and island communities is being extended, Housing Minister Kevin Stewart has told Parliament.

GDP is estimated to have grown by a record 15.5% July To September
UK gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have grown by a record 15.5% in Quarter 3 (July to Sept) 2020, as lockdown measures were eased.   Though this reflects some recovery of activity following the record contraction in Quarter 2 (Apr to June) 2020, the level of GDP in the UK is still 9.7% below where it was at the end of 2019.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts (November 12th) sold 463 sheep and 20 goats at their rare & traditional breeds of livestock sale.   Sheep (463) sold to £370 gross for a pair of Dorset gimmers from Smallburn Farms, Duffus.
