Passenger Numbers Increase At HIAL Airports
Passenger numbers at Scotland's regional airports continued to grow last month, boosted by the success of Inverness Airport's flagship Amsterdam service and growth in the oil sector. Figures released by HIAL, which operates a network of 11 airports across Scotland, show that passenger numbers across the group rose by 4.1% to 98,109 in March.

Gills Harbour Ltd's Chair Welcomes MPs Conclusions
The Chairman of the community body that owns and operates Gills Harbour, on the shores of the Pentland Firth's Inner Sound, is welcoming the findings of a group of Parliamentarians whose Inquiry report 'The Future of Marine Renewables in the UK' has just been published. The Westminster MPs of the Energy & Climate Change Committee looked at the future for electricity that can be generated by harnessing the 'kinetic energy' in flow of Britain's tidal streams and from the power of the waves; both technologies are experimenting with turbines that are still at the 'prototype' stage.22/1/2012
MV Hamnavoe Took Short Crossing In Severe Weather
The 'short sea route' came into its own early last Saturday (21.01.12) afternoon in an unusual manner as storm-force Westerly severe gales swept huge Atlantic Ocean breakers into the Pentland Firth … And the crossing of the narrowest Eastern End of the Firth between Canisbay Parish and South Ronaldsay enabled Orkney to maintain its sea-link with Caithness on one of the wildest sea-days of the 2011/12 winter so far, a season where weather patterns have been dominated by a series of deep atmospheric depressions sweeping in from the West in quick succession. The trip was not done by Pentland Ferries' Pentalina, which normally plies the route thrice-daily, but by NorthLink Ferries' Hamnavoe which made an exceptionally-circuitous crossing from Scrabster to Stromness, adding just an hour to her scheduled 90 minutes' of sailing time.

Pentland Ferries recently added a cafe at their terminal for the comfort of passengers travelling with them. No doubt others in the area may appreciate a snack or cup of tea or coffee if they are in the area.

Loganair gears up to help cyclists -Ride Across Britain-
Wick Airport is preparing for one of its busiest days ever on Friday (June 11) when it welcomes hundreds of cyclists who are taking part in the inaugural Deloitte Ride Across Britain event. Olympic gold medallists James Cracknell and Rebecca Romero will join Paralympic gold medallists Sarah Storey and Jody Cundy to lead 600 cyclists through Wick this weekend as they pedal their way to Lands End.11/8/2007
21st Century Ferry For Pentland Firth Arriving In 2008
Spring 2008 will bring the arrival of the fastest ferry over the Pentland Firth. A new catamaran state of the art high speed ferry will whisk passengers from Gills terminal in Caithnes over to Orkney.
