Leader expresses concerns at SPP plans to outsource work
The Leader of The Highland Council has written to the SPP to express concerns at the announcement of their intention to outsource work to India with the loss of 11 jobs to the Highland area.   Cllr Davidson said: "This is a time when many in the public and private sector are trying to grow employment and the economy in the region and it is disappointing to see a respected organisation, with a close relationship to the public sector, reducing its local workforce and outsourcing employment elsewhere." She added, " I quite understand the changing nature of the press industry and the need to meet budgets, however, outsourcing jobs can never be a good solution for the economy of the Highlands.

Caithness and North Sutherland Regeneration Partnership - Update
Week Commencing 13th July 2015 Energy & Business Services Good to catch up this week with Louise Smith of Caithness Renewables, and to hear the welcome news that the project she has been working on with Caithness Voluntary Group and Transition Black Isle has taken a big step forward.  ACTION Highland Highway has been awarded £35,000 from CNSRP partner Scottish Government's Local Energy Challenge Fund in order to help establish a network of electric vehicle charging points, using an innovative link with Denchi Power, who supply batteries for use by the Ministry of Defence.  
AREVA Awarded A Contract for Nuclear Site Decommissioning
The contract applies to twelve sites throughout the UK managed by the decommissioning company Magnox Ltd as well as the nuclear site at Dounreay in Caithness, Scotland, Radioactive Waste Management Limited's site in Harwell and the Low-Level Waste Repository in West Cumbria.   A number of segments make up the contrac.

Following the resignation of Councillor Drew Hendry (SNP), a by-election will be held to elect a Member for The Highland Council's Ward 13: Aird and Loch Ness.   Ward 13 is a four-member ward.

Thurso and Wick Traffic Management top of the agenda for Ward Forums
Two Ward Forums are being held in Thurso and Wick on 22nd July and 29th July to discuss the traffic management in both towns and its environs.  Members of the public will be able to have their say on how they see the management of vehicles in both towns over the coming years.

Limekiln wind farm in Caithness refused consent
Energy Minister Fergus Ewing has refused to give consent for a 24-turbine wind farm near Reay in Caithness.  Mr Ewing said he agreed with the outcome of a public local inquiry into the Infinergy's proposal.

Ewing describes wind power decision as ‘anti-business'
Energy Minster Fergus Ewing has criticised the recent UK Government decision to end the Renewables Obligation early as ‘anti-business' following a summit with the industry.   The summit, held in Glasgow and attended by over 200 representatives from the across the sector, was an opportunity for the Scottish Government to meet and listen to the industry about the impact of the UK Government decision that will affect many businesses in Scotland.

Urban projects among 23 to receive half million community renewables funding package.   Communities from inner city Glasgow to western Harris are set to benefit from £500,000 in funding for demonstrator projects designed to encourage the use and local ownership of renewable energy.

Veterinary Disease Surveillance Consultation Closes Today
Today, Friday 10 July 2015, is the final day for submitting feedback to SRUC's consultation on the future of veterinary disease surveillance in Scotland.   The consultation was launched at the start of June to gather views on proposals for potential changes involving the Inverness and Ayr Disease Surveillance Centres (DSCs).

Sixteen Highland students graduated (Saturday 27 June) through the University of Aberdeen in partnership with The Highland Council following an eighteen month distance learning diploma in Primary Teaching.   The course, Distance Learning Initial Teacher Education (DLITE) is completing its inaugural session in June 2015, seeing these students enter their Probation year in Highland schools this August.
