Rise In European Visitors

The number of European visitors to Scotland increased by 19% in 2018, according to official statistics released today.   Overall there was a 10% increase in visits from overseas tourists and a 1.2% increase in domestic (Great Britain) overnight visits to Scotland.

Late May Bank Holiday: 153,000 Breakdowns Expected Over The Weekend

Over 153,000 breakdowns expected to occur on UK roads this weekend as drivers head off for the bank holiday weekend.   Green Flag is predicting 21 breakdowns every minute between Friday and Tuesday.

Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd - Pedigree and Luing Sale 22 May 2019

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (May, 22nd) sold 91 pedigree and commercial Luing cattle at their eleventh annual spring breeding sale sponsored by W & A Geddes and Harbro Ltd.   Pedigree bulling heifers (47) averaged £2,084.36 and sold to 2,750gns (£2,887.50), twice for 25 month old heifers from Mr G.

Water scarcity - Council supporting users of private water supplies

The Highland Council's Environmental Health Team is advising users of private water supplies to take preventative steps to preserve their drinking water.  Following a mild Winter and Spring, there is increasing pressures on water supplies.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (May, 22nd) sold 329 adult head of breeding cattle at their special sale.   Commercial bulling heifers (84) sold to £1,520 gross for a pair of Limousin crosses from Coldhome Farm, Fortrose.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (May, 22nd) sold the complete dispersal of the pedigree Shorthorn herd from Smallburn Farm comprising of 21 adult head of breeding cattle.   Lot 1 - Shawhill Fancy sired by Alvie Blue Eyedboy she has a heifer calf at foot and is back in calf to Meonside Javelin she sold for 4,000gns to Messrs S.

The public consultation on the proposed contents of the Highland Council Common Good Asset Register is due to close on Wednesday 5 June 2019.  There is still time to consider the lists published on the Council's website and to make comments.

New life sciences building opens on Inverness Campus

A new £4.5m life sciences building was officially opened at Inverness Campus by the Deputy First Minister Mr John Swinney, on Monday 20 May 2019.   Called ‘Solasta House', it offers flexible space for new and expanding technology and life sciences companies and is already home to eight companies and could be 75 percent full by the summer.

Impact on PSA posts significantly reduced to under 12 across Highland

There will be minimal impact on PSA posts due to extensive work done to protect staff through the holding back over 50 vacant posts and identifying other opportunities within the council.   We have committed to avoiding compulsory redundancies.

Decrease in gender employment gap over last decade

The gender employment gap, which measures the difference between the employment rates for men and women, has decreased from 10.5 percentage points in 2008 to 7.6 percentage points in 2018.   Scotland's Chief Statistician today published statistics on Regional Employment Patterns in Scotland from the Annual Population Survey (APS).

Thousands Of New Homes Supported By Building Scotland Fund

Almost £70 million has been invested in housing projects through the Building Scotland Fund (BSF) since its launch last year.  This money has supported the development of 5,500 new homes and around 600 full time jobs The BSF, which is a precursor to the Scottish National Investment Bank, provides loans to support the delivery of homes both for sale and for rent.

Free forum event for Highland landlords

The Highland Council, in partnership with Under One Roof Scotland, are inviting all private landlords to a special seminar specifically to look at issues surrounding common repairs and building maintenance in flats and how to deal with any problems that may arise.   Under One Roof Scotland www.underoneroof.scot is an impartial online information site for flat owners and their advisers.

Economic benefits of £745m Aberdeen by-pass highlighted

Around 50% of traffic has shifted from Aberdeen city onto the new Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route since it fully opened in February - easing congestion and improving air quality in the north east.   Initial monitoring by Transport Scotland also found key journey times have been reduced by half, even during rush hour, through the 36-mile AWPR route between Stonehaven and south of Ellon.

Highland Council Final Accounts For 2018/19 Show Improved Position

A greatly improved financial position is to be reported to the council's Corporate Resources Committee meeting next week for the financial year 2018/19.  The position reflects the overspend reducing by £3M due to management actions in recent months.
