Wick and Thurso Police Stations Moving To Reduced Opening Times
Revised opening times for eight police stations in the Highlands and Islands. New opening times will come into effect in April 2013 for eight of Northern Constabulary's fifty police stations in an effort to provide the most effective and visible front-line police service.

Millions pledged to councils for new homes
Councils will receive a share of £40 million to help families into hundreds of new social homes, Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed today. The total funding package is expected to deliver around 1,000 homes, mainly for social rent, and support up to 700 jobs in construction and related sectors, over the next two years.

The owner of Scotland’s busiest snowsports centre is looking for a new operator to run visitor facilities at the resort on its behalf. Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) built and owns Scotland’s only funicular railway at Cairngorm, along with associated facilities including ski lifts, the base station, shop, visitor centre, and the UK’s highest restaurant.

Vital youth jobs scheme extended
Hundreds more young people will be supported into jobs following the investment of an additional £6.3 million from the Scottish Government into Community Jobs Scotland. The third sector programme will receive £5.75 million for 2013/14 to support up to 1,000 young people into employment with 10 per cent of the budget ring fenced for those with disabilities and long term illnesses.28/2/2013

The Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters and South West Marine Energy Parks join forces
The UK's two Marine Energy Parks (MEP) will today (Thursday 28 Feb) sign a milestone agreement to work together to support the development of the wave and tidal industry in the United Kingdom. The collaboration agreement, which will be signed at the Renewable UK Wave and Tidal Conference in London, will be witnessed by Greg Barker, MP, Minister of State for Climate Change and Fergus Ewing, MSP, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism.

Council welcomes ground investigation works for start of A9 dualling

Welfare Reform briefing for Highland MPs
The Highland’s three MPs - Danny Alexander (Inverness Nairn Badenoch and Strathspey), Charles Kennedy, (Ross Skye and Lochaber) and John Thurso (Caithness Sutherland and East Ross) - attended a meeting of The Highland Council’s Welfare Reform Working Group today (Friday) to hear the Council’s concerns about welfare reform and ideas for action that may reduce the impact of change. The Scottish Government has announced a £1.3 million funding boost to help first-time buyers in the Highlands on to the property ladder.
