Reids Bakery tastes success in Scottish Baker of the Year 2019/20 Competition

Reids Bakery of Thurso did their customers proud at the weekend by taking home a top prize in the Scottish Baker of the Year 2019/20 competition.

The bakery was awarded:

Strawberry Tart - Regional Silver

Brown Bread - Regional Gold

Buttery - Special Silver.

"We are delighted," said Gary Reid of Reids Bakery, "and we have our customers to thank as it was their votes that got us here! Taking home such a prestigious prize is a huge honour and we cannot wait to share the news with our staff and customers alike."

Following the votes of over 8,000 bakery customers across Scotland and a rigorous day of blind judging by 50 of the industry's top professionals, the winners were finally announced on Saturday 8th June at a glittering awards dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow.

"This competition is hugely popular, with thousands of everyday bakery shoppers voting for their favourite products," said Head Judge, Robert Ross.

"We received over 30,000 individual product votes for goods baked by the best bakers in Scotland. Reids Bakery can be very proud to take home a prize in such a competitive field of brilliant products."

The Scottish Baker of the Year Competition, now in its 8th year, recognises Scotland's best pies, scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, cakes and biscuits. Business awards are also given to the best Cafe Bakery, Craft Bakery, Retail Bakery and Wholesale Bakery with one lucky baker being crowned Scottish Baker of the Year.

Alasdair Smith of Scottish Bakers, who organise the competition said, “We are delighted to once again be giving Scottish bakers the chance to shine and showcase their fantastic products and it has given us great delight to present awards to each and every worthy winner.”

Scottish Baker of the Year 2022/3 shortlist announced and Reid's of Caithness is in the running Reid’s of Caithness of Thurso has made it to the shortlist of the 10th Scottish Baker of the Year Awards following the annual judging day held in Dunfermline earlier this month.   With Scottish Bakers members each asked to put forward 10 of their star products to be taste tested by some 55 industry experts - nearly 500 products from 57 bakers were delivered for the judges to assess for appearance, the quality of the bake and taste.

Reids Of Caithness Makes The Shortlist For Scottish Baker Of The Year
Thanks to the residents of Thurso, Reids of Caithness has been recognised by a panel of expert judges as producing one of the best individual cakes in the land - a Crofters Cake.   Customers from across Scotland voted for their best bakery products during March and the top 30 products in each of the 5 categories were baked and delivered to Fife for judging by a panel of independent experts led by artisan Robert Ross including retired master bakers with extensive experience of the bakery sector in Scotland.  
Highlands and Islands Producers give London a Taste of Scotland
Seven food and drink producers from across the Highlands and Islands are preparing to take their places at one of the biggest exhibitions of the year this weekend Scotland Food and Drink are running the Scottish Pavilion at the Speciality and Fine Food Fair at London's Olympia Exhibition Centre from 4-6 September.   The North's businesses will be amongst those displaying their products within the themed 'Scotland Land of Food and Drink' area, showcasing some of the country's wonderful natural larder products and fantastic producers.
