Region's Businesses Value Community Links

Most businesses in the Highlands and Islands consider their links with the local community as either equal to or more important than their profitable growth.   This is one of the key findings of the most recent rural business survey commissioned by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) in partnership with South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE).

Power Boost For Off-grid Island

A project to increase electricity supply and reduce emissions on a west coast island has been awarded more than £25,000 by HIE.   The HIE funding is being used to replace and upgrade high voltage transformers and other associated equipment to enable a major upgrade of the renewable energy supply on the Isle of Muck.

Region's Young Workforce To Take Part In Pioneering Sustainability Skills Programme

Region's young workforce to take part in pioneering sustainability skills programme.   Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), Zero Waste Scotland and business transformation enterprise Powering Futures have teamed up to provide the fully-funded places on the Highlands and Islands Powering Futures Challenge 2024.

New Facility For Renewables Industry Trainees

People working in or entering Scotland's growing renewables industry will soon have access to a new training facility in Inverness.   The £1.22m Renewable Energy Training Centre, being established by Aurora Energy Services Ltd, (AES) will be the first of its kind in the region.

Blow To North Economy Assistance As HIE Gets Cut To Its Budget

​The Scottish Government has delivered a huge blow to economic assistance in the Highlands and Islands as Highlands and Islands enterprise has had a 13% cut to it budget for 23/24.   HIE's budget for 2024-25 will drop to £54.8 million, down from £62.8 million in the current year.

Shares in AMTE Power based in Thurso were suspended on the Stock Exchange on 19 December 2023.   AMTE Power, a high-performance battery developer, has called in administrators in a fresh blow to Britain's net zero industry.

The West Highland Tea Company is improving the energy efficiency and footprint of its newly leased premises in Mallaig.   A manufacturing company in Lochaber has embarked on a £113,300 project to reduce its carbon footprint while increasing production and creating jobs.

Register Now For The Largest Nuclear Decommissioning Supply Chain Event In Europe

Today, Monday 20 November, the NDA has opened registration for its tenth nuclear decommissioning supply chain event, which will be held at The International Centre in Telford on 27 June 2024.   Launched in 2011, the supply chain event has gone on to attract a total of around 10,000 visitors from more than 20 countries over the years, representing thousands of companies both large and small.

NDA Reaffirms Cooperation With Korea Radioactive Waste Agency

Leaders from the UK's Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), and the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD) signed their second cooperation statement.   Yesterday, Monday 20 November 2023, leaders from the UK's Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), and the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD) reaffirmed their commitment to share their knowledge, experience and technology in relation to the management of radioactive waste.
