DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (December, 4th) sold 1,507 store sheep.  Lambs (941) averaged £52.54 and sold to £83 gross for Beltex crosses from Lower Geanies, Fearn.

Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places in Highland
CHANGES to a number of Polling Districts and Polling Places in the Highlands were agreed today at the meeting of the Community Safety, Public Engagement and Equalities Committee.   The Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places in Highland commenced in November 2013, in line with duties under the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013.

Proposal to end collections on February 1.   A proposal to end the collection of Poll Tax debts from February 1 next year is contained within the Community Charge Debt (Scotland) Bill, which is published today.

DFM statement on stamp duty
DFM: UK Government takes lead from first tax system designed by Scottish Government.   Deputy First Minister and Finance Secretary John Swinney has responded to the Chancellor's announcement on stamp duty saying, ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.’ The Scottish Government had already pledged to reform the UK Stamp Duty Land Tax and replace it with a Land and Buildings Transaction Tax, coming into force in April 2015.

The Office of the Nuclear Regulator (ONR) has served Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL) with an Improvement Notice as a result of a fire at the sodium tank farm of the Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR) in October 2014.   The fire took place early hours of the morning on 7 October 2014 and has been widely publicised to local stakeholders by DSRL.

Living Wage to be paid to all Parliamentary workers
All contractor staff working at the Scottish Parliament will be guaranteed a Living Wage, Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick announced today.   All directly employed Parliamentary staff are already paid at a level above the Living Wage rate and today's announcement extends the Living Wage guarantee to their colleagues who are employed through contractors.

Hundreds more affordable homes planned
Millions to be invested through innovative charitable bond model.   The Scottish Government is investing £25 million next year in charitable bonds that could lead to up to 450 affordable homes being built, Social Justice Secretary Alex Neil confirmed today.

Update on Radon works to Council properties
The Highland Council has been taking action to reduce radon in nine properties which include five schools.  Testing earlier in the year showed all properties had radon above the statutory Action Level of 400 Bq/m³.

SSE'S networks business, SHE Transmission, has awarded its largest ever Living Wage contract - worth £460million - to engineering firm ABB Limited.   The contract is part of the Caithness to Moray Transmission Project, the vital new subsea link which will allow more renewable energy to join up to the network in the north of Scotland.
