DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 14th) sold 1630 weaned calves at their second annual district ballot show and sale.
The judge, Mr G. Anderson, Auchenhalrig, Fochabers, awarded the overall champion of the Barclays Haulage sponsored show to a nine month old British Blue cross bullock from the Firm of J. Munro & Son, Invercharron, Ardgay, scaling in at 400kg and realising £950 gross. The reserve champion was a 360kg, six month old Limousin cross bullock from Mr C. Mackay, Westburn, Caithness, weighing 360kg and realising £1,010 to Jamie Fraser, Tore Mains.
Bullocks (968) averaged 245.2p and sold to 360p per kg for 300kg Charolais cross from Inverchoran, Strathconon, and £1,110 gross on four occasions, for a pen of 400kg Charolais crosses from Mayfield, Scrabster, a 550kg Limousin cross from 186 Migdale, Bonar Bridge, a 440kg Charolais cross from Gorthleck Mains, Gorthleck, and a 375kg Charolais cross from Abersky, Torness.
Heifers (662) averaged 225.7p and sold to 386.9p per kg for a 305kg Limousin cross from Dunmaglass Estate, Dores, and £1,300 gross twice for a 345kg British Blue cross from Invercharron, Ardgay, and a 350kg Limousin cross from Dunmaglass Estate.
