Renewables debate moves to London
Scottish Government to host renewables roundtable & meet UK Energy Secretary.   The Scottish Government will today take its campaign on the future of renewable energy to London as it renewed calls for the UK Government to change course on its cuts in support for renewable energy.

Record increase for renewable heat
Amount generated from renewables rises by over a third.   The amount of heat generated by renewable sources in Scotland grew by 36 per cent during 2014.

Cracking the international dairy market
Scottish dairy and eggs exports have rocketed since 2007.   Scotland's Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Food and the Environment today revealed that the value of Scottish dairy and egg exports increased by 77 per cent between 2007 and 2014.

A different path from austerity
Scottish Government plan would release £150bn more for public services.   The First Minister has set out an alternative option for a UK wide fiscal mandate that would ensure sustainable UK public finances while releasing additional investment in public services and infrastructure compared to the UK Government's planned cuts.

Community Council Nominations
Following the recent call for candidates wishing to serve on Highland Community Councils to come forward a total of 109 Councils attracted sufficient interest to form a new Council.   The new Community Councils will form following Election Day on 18 November.

Transport providers invited to find out "How to supply Highland Council"
The Highland Council is inviting transport providers large and small to a series of events being held throughout the Highlands to find out how they can tender to supply transport services for the local authority.   Representatives from the Council's Transport and Procurement Units will be holding the events throughout October 2015 in Thurso (22nd), Ullapool (23rd), Portree (26th), Fort William (27th), Aviemore (29th), Inverness (30th) and on the 2nd November in Lairg and Auchtertyre, Kyle.

Dialogue in support of Highland Head Teachers
The Highland Council is to hold further dialogue with Head Teachers and stakeholders on proposals to enhance support for Head Teachers and create sustained management support in Highland schools.   The Council's programme, Highland First, includes a commitment to work collaboratively with Head Teachers to provide them with the best opportunity to maintain standards, reduce unnecessary bureaucracy and to drive further improvement.

Members support promoting Power of Attorney
Members of The Highland Council's Education, Children and Adult Services Committee have agreed to support the role of Health and Social Care professionals in making people in the Highlands aware of the importance of making arrangements for Power of Attorney when they are still capable.   The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 provides a legal framework for safeguarding the welfare and managing the finances of adults who lack capacity due to mental disorder or inability to communicate.

Full A90 closure scheduled
ssential demolition works planned for weekends October 24/25, October 31/November 1, and November 14/15, 2015.   Road users are warned to avoid the vicinity of the Forth Road Bridge when the A90 and M90 (M9 Spur) will be closed to all traffic south of Echline Junction to allow for the demolition of the B800 bridge located between South Queensferry and Kirkliston.

New public sector procurement guidance to promote fair work The Scottish Government will today (TUES) formalise its commitment to making Scotland a fairer place to work with new statutory guidance for public sector procurement.   The document represents the first time any administration has gone as far, and ensures that public sector procurements can take account of the fact that employers whose staff are treated fairly are likely to deliver higher quality services.

Widow and widower pensions reinstated
Remarried partners of officers killed in line of duty will now keep pensions.   Widows and widowers of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty will now receive their deceased partners' pension for life even if they remarry or move in with a new partner.
