Knowing What To Expect From Care Workers

3rd September 2018

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) has produced a leaflet, What to expect from your care worker, to let people know what type of behaviour and values they can expect from their care worker and what to do if they have a concern. The leaflets will be available in all GP surgeries in Scotland from September.

Care workers, including people working in nurseries, care homes, residential care and those delivering care and support to people in their own homes, are registered with the SSSC and must meet the standards of behaviour and values set out in the SSSC Code of Practice for Social Service Workers.

SSSC Chief Executive, Lorraine Gray said:‘Everyone in Scotland will use social services at some times in their lives such as nurseries, care homes for older people and care at home.

‘It's very important that people who use social services and their carers know what to expect and what to do if they are concerned about their worker's ability or behaviour. I hope this leaflet will help them do that, and that's why we are asking GP surgeries to display it.'

The SSSC, the social service workforce regulator, is here to make sure that people receive high quality care and that their rights are promoted and protected.
