A new intermediate waste store is being constructed at Dounreay.
The first concrete pour has taken place on a new waste store at Dounreay that will be needed for the closure of the site. Dounreay awarded the contract to construct the new intermediate level waste store to GRAHAM Construction Ltd.

New Apprenticeship Hub to Support North Highland Communities
North Highland College UHI and Developing the Young Workforce North Highland (DYW) initiative, led by Caithness Chamber of Commerce, have signed a partnership agreement to formalise their new initiative, The Apprenticeship Hub. The initiative aims to create a collaborative approach between North Highland College UHI and Developing the Young Workforce North Highland to support growth in the apprenticeship family to benefit the Caithness and Sutherland economy.

NDA Stakeholder Summit 2019 Main Highlights
This was the NDA's third summit, and the inspirational setting of the new Coleg Menai facilities, on Anglesey in North Wales, perfectly reflected the NDA’s approach to building sustainable post-nuclear communities around its estate. External Force Asked To Review Death Of Kevin Mcleod
Police Scotland has asked for an independent review into the death of a man whose body was recovered from Wick Harbour more than 20 years ago. Senior representatives of Police Scotland and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service met with the family of Kevin Mcleod earlier today to inform them that, following consultation with the Lord Advocate, Chief Constable Iain Livingstone has requested Merseyside Police carry out a detailed review of the case under the direction of the Crown.18/6/2019

Weeks commencing 20th & 27th May Energy & Business Services: The Beatrice Offshore Windfarm project this week reached an output capacity of 587.9MW (its installed capacity is 588MW), which is the highest output from any renewable source in Scotland. And as the construction phase of the Beatrice Offshore project comes to an end it is good to see that offshore piling operations have begun for the Moray East offshore windfarm development.18/5/2019

Scotland's Chief Statistician today published statistics on Police Officer Quarterly Strength, which gives the number of full-time equivalent police officers employed by Police Scotland. US and UK complete project to remove highly enriched uranium
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and US Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) have completed the transfer of around 700kg of highly enriched uranium (HEU) from Dounreay, in the north of Scotland, to the US. The HEU transfer, from Dounreay to the United States, was announced by the UK Government as part of its commitment to the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit held in Washington DC.

Leask Marine Successfully Complete Decommissioning Of Ola Pier Linkspan
Leask Marine have recently completed the decommissioning of the redundant 160 tonne Ola Pier linkspan as part of the redevelopment at Scrabster Harbour, Caithness. The project included the preparation works of dismantling of the linkspan ramp from the existing pier, placing in temporary support beams to the linkspan prior to the cutting works, removal of the tar from the linkspan road surface, cutting and dismantling the support towers and cutting the actual linkspan into firstly pieces.

Supply chain to play key role in decommissioning projects at Dounreay
Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL) has opened the door to dozens of companies to play an active role in supporting the delivery of Scotland's largest decommissioning project. Construction of a size reduction facility, shaft and silo decommissioning and demolition of historic active laboratories are just some of the major projects expected to be delivered as part of a decommissioning services framework, potentially worth up to £400 million, which was announced on Tuesday 23rd April 2019.

Police and DVLA Swoop On Unlicensed Vehicles in Caithness
A multi-agency operation aimed at removing abandoned and untaxed vehicles from the roads of Caithness has led to 27 vehicles being clamped or seized. Police Scotland officers have worked with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and Highland Council Environmental Health officers during the three day operation running from Monday, April 15 until Wednesday, 17 April 2019.
