Minimum Unit Pricing On Alcohol To Begin On 1st May 2018
Minimum unit pricing for alcohol will come into force on 1 May 2018. Health Secretary Shona Robison this week updated MSPs on the plans and confirmed a consultation on the preferred minimum unit price of 50 pence will be published next week.

Labour Response To November 2017 Budget
The Budget offers no plan to fix the housing crisis - John Healey John Healey MP, Labour's Shadow Housing Secretary, responding to the Chancellor's announcements on housing in the Budget, said: "This is a ‘nothing has changed' Budget from a Government with no idea of the reality of people's lives and no plan to improve them. This was billed as the ‘housing budget', but the announcements fall far short of a proper plan to help fix the housing crisis.

Scottish Government Unhappy With Budget
The UK Government's budget does not represent a good deal for Scotland, as a consequence of a real terms cut to Scotland's revenue block grant of over £200m next year. Commenting on today's UK Government budget Finance Secretary Derek Mackay said that Scotland is being "short changed".22/11/2017
Wick Lifeboat Aids Cargo Vessel Jomi
Wick Lifeboat called out by Shetland Coastguard at 09:35 this morning to go to the aid of a cargo vessel 'Jomi', half a mile offshore in Sinclair's Bay, Caithness. They had reported dragging its anchor in the Easterly swell and unable to get its engine started.

Over £600,000 FLAG funding still available in Highland & Moray
Businesses and organisations are being encouraged to apply for funding through the Highland & Moray Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) as part of the European Maritime & Fisheries Fund. Firefighters March On Holyrood In Protest At ‘Dangerous' Cuts To Fire Service
Scottish firefighters will descend on Holyrood this coming Thursday (23 November 2017) to protest against leaked plans to shut fire stations and cut jobs in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service as a result of budget cuts. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Scottish government are considering the move despite having made commitments to safeguard frontline resources in 2013 when eight fire services were merged into one.

Success at national awards for Council's Planning Service
The Highland Council received two awards at last week's Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning. One Award was in the "Process" Category for the Highland eDevelopment project and the second was in the "Place" category for the Nucleus Building in Wick.
