Call For £98 Billion Stimulus Package
Finance Secretary Kate Forbes has called on the UK Government to prioritise public services and economic recovery through a fresh fiscal stimulus package of £98 billion, ahead of the Spending Review on Wednesday. This support, which is at least 5% of GDP, would be on par with the economic recovery packages and renewed emergency support provided by other nations such as Germany, France and New Zealand.21/11/2020

Will people living in remote and rural Highlands & Islands will have full access to the Covid-19 vaccine?
Rhoda Grant MSP raised concerns in Parliament yesterday (Thursday 19TH November 2020) that people in remote and rural Highlands & Islands will have less access to the Covid-19 vaccine when it becomes available. Speaking to the chamber and addressing the Cabinet Secretary Jeane Freeman, Mrs Grant said: "The cabinet secretary will be aware that many of my constituents cannot access Covid-19 testing simply because of where they live.

Councillors approve over £4.786 million investment in Inverness housing
Members of The Highland Council's City of Inverness Area Committee have today agreed a proposed £4,786,000 investment in council housing for 2021-22. The one-year Inverness Area Housing Revenue Account (HRA) Capital Programme is part of the Highland wide HRA Capital Plan for 2021-22 which will see over £15m invested in improving the housing stock across the region.20/11/2020
Historic Inverness bridge may need to close
The category B listed suspension Infirmary footbridge in Inverness which traverses the River Ness between Ness Walk and Ness Bank may need to close for public safety until The Highland Council considers and secures funding for necessary repairs. This was the message that the Council's Roads Operations Manager, John Taylor informed Members of the City of Inverness Area Committee this week.

CMA Fines Comparethemarket £17.9m For Competition Law Breach - Perhaps Not So Comparable
The Competition and Markets authority has fined ComparetheMarket £17.9 million after it found that clauses used in the company's contracts with home insurers breached competition law. An investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has concluded that, between December 2015 and December 2017, the price comparison website ComparetheMarket breached competition law by imposing wide ‘most favoured nation' clauses on providers of home insurance selling through its platform.20/11/2020

HMRC - More Support Offered Through The Customs Grant Scheme
We have changed the customs grant scheme to allow more people to access the funding and help ensure they are ready to trade with the EU after the transition period ends. Customs intermediaries - including customs brokers, freight forwarders and express parcel operators - as well as traders who complete their own declarations, are among those who may benefit from the new co-funded training project under General Block Exemption Regulations (GBER).

Fish Export Service Trial Period
The service will open for a trial and test phase to allow businesses to sign in, familiarise themselves with the system and create sample documents before it goes fully live on 29 December 2020. Exporter businesses and fishers who land catch in the EU will be contacted directly inviting them to join the trial and, importantly, provide their feedback.

10 New Satellites To Be Built In Glasgow In Next Three Years As Part Of New Innovative Constellation Service
10 new government-backed satellites the size of a shoebox are going to be built in Scotland after a signing between AAC Clyde Space UK and ESA. AAC Clyde manufacture a range of small satellites, ranging from 1kg to 50kg in weight, and offer space-as-a-service, which is an end-to-end mission service covering everything from mission design, launch and satellite operations to data delivery for companies including; Orbcomm, NSLComm, Eutelsat, Orbital Micro Systems, NASA and ESA.
