DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highlands Marts Ltd, (September, 14th) sold 4,271 ewe lambs and gimmers at the Highland Mule Breeders Association annual show and sale.
The gimmer judge, Mr A. Duncan, Daviot Farms, awarded the Challenge cup for best pen of gimmers to a pen of 30 mules from Croftdhu, Tomatin, which realised £160. Mr G. Smith, Towiemore Farm, who judged the ewe lambs, awarded the Secretary's cup to a pen from Blackford Farm, Croy, which realised £108 to the judge.
Highland Mule gimmers (1,065) averaged £147.64 (+ £61.48 on the corresponding sale last year) and sold to £160 gross on five occasions for pens from Aberchalder, Invergarry, Croftdhu, Tomatin, Blackford Farm, Croy, and two pens from Nether Comisty, Forgue.
Cheviot Mule gimmers (13) averaged £141.92 (+ £43.92 on the year) and sold to £150 gross from Dell Farm, Farr.
Highland Mule ewe lambs (3,021) averaged £83.14 (+ £28.03 on the year) and sold to £108 gross from Blackford Farm.
Cheviot Mule ewe lambs (28) averaged £94.07 (+ £36.65 on the year) and sold to £105 gross from Flichity Mains, Farr.
