Dingwall & Highland Marts Sale 25 February 2010

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (February, 25th) sold 47 registered Cheviot females at its inaugural show and sale.
The adverse weather conditions seriously affected the hill sheep entry and intending purchasers, but a very satisfactory trade was realised for the brave souls that made the sale.
The Main Register judge, Mr R. Sutherland, Hilliclay, Caithness, awarded his champion to the first prize ewe lamb, sired by Bardnaclavan Baron, from James Mackay, Biggins, Wick, realising �300 to the judge, and the reserve award to the second prize ewe lamb, sired by Smiddyquoy Highlander, from Messrs J & J Farquhar, Smiddyquoy, Watten, realising �330 to Mr H Sutherland, Drummuie, Golspie.
Hill Register judge Mr R. J. Lund, East Clough Farm, Cumbria, awarded his champion to the first prize in lamb ewe, a 5 year old Langdale Typhoon daughter carrying twins to Balnakeil Boomerang from Badanloch Estate Limited, Kinbrace, realising �580 to the judge, with the reserve award going to the first prize gimmer, another Langdale Typhoon daughter carrying twins to North House Nailer, also from Badanloch Estate Limited, which realised �600 also to the judge.
Averages:
Main register - seventeen ewe lambs, �177.06; eight gimmers, �266.25; ten ewes, �180.
Hill register - four gimmers, �295; eight ewes, �367.50.

Main register - ewe lambs - Dispersal from the Field of Noss flock, Wick, �260, �240; Smiddyquoy, �220. In lamb gimmers - 25 Habost, Ness, Isle of Lewis, �350; Biggins, �350 (twice); 25 Habost, �300. In lamb ewes - Field of Noss, �300; Muirton, Munlochy, �200; Field of Noss, �150 (thrice).

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd, (April 1st) sold 8,772 sheep of all classes, including the annual spring sale of ewe lambs with an overall sale averaged of £122.09. Ewe Lambs (4,806) sold to £270 gross for a pen of Blue Texels from Broombank, Culloden Moor.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (April 2nd) sold 1,499 Prime Sheep. Old Season Lambs (765) averaged 311.0p per kg and sold to 365.0p per kg for a pair of Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge and £182 gross for a pair of Rouges from Ellis Park, Conon Bridge.

Bullocks (442) averaged 391.6p per kg and sold to 600.0p per kg for a 200kg Limousin crosses from Clovullin, Fort William and £2,300 gross for a 580kg Charolais cross from The Cloy, Fortrose.
