Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd - Sale 7 April 2010

DINGWALL, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd, (April 7th) sold 15 Young Farmers over-wintered cattle at their annual show and sale, sponsored by Messrs Home Farms, Inverness.
The judge, Jocky McCallum, Mountrich Farm, Dingwall, choose as his champion the first prize heifer, an 11 month old 470kg Charolais cross, brought out by Sarah Wilson, Wester Cairnglass, Nairn. Bred by Hugh and Neil Mackay, Wester Tomloan, Ardclach, and purchased at Dingwall in November. The champion was sold for �1,000 to Bridgend Farm, Dingwall. Sarah was also awarded 'Best animal exhibited by a junior member'.
Reserve champion went to Jamie Fraser, of Tore Mains, Tore, with his first prize bullock, a 615kg Charolais cross also bred at Wester Tomloan. This 13 month old was purchased at Dingwall, in October. The prizes for 'Best presented and paraded', 'highest daily live weight gain' and 'best from InverRoss Young Farmers Club' also went to Jamie. Buyer at �1,070 was Messrs G & S McConachie, Berrybrae, Wardhouse, Insh.
Home-bred champion and second prize heifer was a Limousin cross from Sarah Wilson. This yearling weighed in at 395kg and sold at �1,020 to Mr Donald Morrison, 141 Burnside, Kinlochbervie. She was sired by Middledale Toronto and out of a British Blue cross cow.
The prize for 'Best from Ross Sutherland' went to Duncan Scott, Cadbollmount, for a homebred 500kg Simmental cross bullock, which realised �800.

Bullock: 1st Jamie Fraser, Tore Mains, Tore, 615kg, �1,070; 2nd Stuart Grant, Druid Temple, Inverness, 500kg, �990; 3rd Kenny MacIver, Flowerburn Mains, Fortrose, 425kg, �840.
Heifer: 1st Sarah Wilson, Wester Cairnglass, Nairn, 470kg, �1,000; 2nd Sarah Wilson, Wester Cairnglass, 395kg, �1,020; 3rd Stuart Grant, Druid Temple, 570kg, �1,080.
Best home-bred: Sarah Wilson, Wester Cairnglass.
Highest daily live-weight gain: Jamie Fraser, Tore Mains.
Highest gross margin: Andrew Grant, Druid Temple, Inverness, (�320).
Best animal exhibited by a junior: Sarah Wilson, Wester Cairnglass.
Best presented and paraded: Jamie Fraser, Tore Mains.
