FORT WILLIAM, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd., (September 11th) sold 512 spring born calves and store cattle.

Bullocks (313) averaged 345.2p (+43.8p) and sold 444.0p per kg for a pen of stabiliser crosses from Daliea, Acharacle and £1,420 gross for a Beef Shorthorn cross from Tigh Na Feidh, Strontian.

Heifers (199) averaged 308.1p (+19.2p) and sold to 392p per kg for a Charolais cross from Ardtornish Farms, Morven and sold to £1,400 gross for a pair of Simmental crosses from Mungosdail, Drimnin.

Cast cows (17) sold to £1,120 gross for a Simmental cross from Lundavra Farm, Fort William

"Fort Williams annual calf sale, unlike the terrible weather surrounding the Lochaber Glens was full of buoyancy and joy as vendors were greeted with a phenomenal trade. Bullocks in particular met a fierce enquiry of all breeds and were short of buyers requirements. Heifers were also privy to a firm trade and the whole sale recorded centre record averages even with some mixy and funny aged cattle through the sale."
