"Dingwall and Highland Marts second district show, and sale was once again kindly sponsored by NFU Mutual (Dingwall & Thurso) with judging proceedings in able hands of Fergus Forbes, Little Kildrummie, carrying on our theme of young farmers judging the calf shows. Champion this year was found in the mid ross district from Mr Billy Kellas, Burnside Croft who showed an outstanding limousin cross Heifer which caught the eye of many an on looker. She was knocked down at £2,200 to today's judge, Fergus Forbes after a ferocious frenzy of bidding. The reserve Champion was awarded to long standing Dingwall loyalist Messrs Mackay, Wester Tomloan whose limousin cross heifer realised £1,750 being knocked down the Sophie Tucker, Wick again for the young farmers overwintering Competition. Ona whole a truly outstanding trade greeted the vendors today which saw averages soar on the year as a full ringside of buyers were out in force eager to purchase cattle on the back on the recent upturn in the prime cattle trade."
