DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd, (October 16th) sold 476 store cattle and 138 OTM cattle

Bullocks (278) averaged 304.3p per kg and sold to 475.5p per kg for a 265kg Limousin cross from Shop Farm, Scotscalder and £1,880 gross for a 580kg Limousin cross from Lower Whitebog, Fortrose.

Heifers (183) averaged 287.6p per kg and sold to 428.6p per kg for a Limousin cross from Shop Farm, Scotscalder and £2,000 gross for a 640kg Limousin from Lower Whitebog, Fortrose.

Young bulls (16) sold to £850 for a 400kg Highland Cross from Scroggie, Glenwyvis.

"A mixed entry of strong store, stirks and spring born calves were present today which sold away to a full ringside of buyers. All classes met a firm enquiry, in particular the spring born calves which were every bit as dear as last week with more native breeds in the sale."

“An extreme plain show of cows were forward today which included a large percentage of highlanders. Meat was in short supply and keenly bid for as too were the better end of the lean cows for feeding.”
