4th November 2011
Council seeks contractor for replacement footbridge at Highland beauty spot.
The Highland Council is inviting contractors to express their interest in a contract for replacement of the suspension footbridge at Rogie Falls near Contin.
The contract opportunity is currently advertised on the Public Contracts Scotland website and interested contractors must register their interest through the website www.publiccontractsscotland.gov.uk
Public Contracts Scotland provides contractors with free access to public sector contract information throughout Scotland.
The proposed works at Rogie Falls comprise all aspects of removal of the existing footbridge and erection of a new steel and timber suspension footbridge with a main span of 24 metres. The estimated value of the works is £90,000 and works are expected to commence early in 2012.
The existing bridge was erected around 1975 when it replaced an earlier bridge that had fallen into disrepair. The current bridge forms part of the Core Path Network and annual visitor numbers are estimated to be in excess of 50,000 per annum.
Earlier this year, a report by structural engineers advised that the bridge required extensive refurbishment or replacement and recommendations for the bridge to be replaced were approved by the Planning and Development Committee in May 2011, to be funded through the Council's capital programme.
