Pulteneytown Clean Up Appeal
22nd May 2012
Volunteers are being sought for a major community clean up in the Pulteneytown area of Wick.
Local Community Works Manager for The Highland Council, Stuart Bell said: "The area has been blighted with dumping of waste for many years and this is a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to help clean it up for safe disposal, to protect the environment and to make things right. Amongst the many dumped items which include sofas, mattresses, timber and plastics, there will be items that could have been recycled and put to good use rather than dumped. There are charity organisations and recycling yards throughout the Highlands that accept a whole range of things so I urge anyone that needs to dispose of bulky items to make use of such facilities instead of risking being fined or pacing a prosecution."
The clean up will take place next Wednesday (30th May) and be supported by staff from The Highland Council's TEC Services, the Pulteneytown Peoples Project and Pultney Distillery who will be working on some rough ground at the rear of Nicolson and Kinnaird Streets. Anyone wishing to get involved should turn up at 9.30am. Litter pickers, bags and gloves will be provided.
