Turbines Move From Wick Harbour To Camster Wind Farm
8th October 2012
E.ON's Camster wind farm is in the process of receiving the delivery of 25 Vestas V80 2MW wind turbines. They began to arrive at Wick Harbour at the weekend and are now being transported by road in small convoys. Further boats will be arriving with more turbines in the next few days.
Construction at the site began November 2011 and turbines are due for delivery to the site from Monday 8 October. The turbines will be transported from the harbour north quay, heading west along Martha Terrace onto River Street. Cross the roundabout onto Station Road which leads onto Bankhead. Right turn onto the A882, Thurso Road where loads travel west bound to a left turn onto the site access.
In order to minimise traffic disruption, the turbines will be delivered to the Camster site during off peak travel times, and no diversions or roadworks will be necessary.
The wind farm will be situated between Lybster and Watten and is capable of generating up to 50MW of electricity, enough power for up to 35,000 homes and is currently planned to be generating clean, green electricity by June 2013.
