LOCHMADDY, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 18th) sold 321 weaned calves and store cattle and 9 breeding cattle and 10 OTM cattle at their annual show & sale.
Prior to the sale the judge Mr G. McConnachie, Berrybrae Farm, Insch, awarded the following results:
Overall Champion & 1st prize bullock:
L. Macinnes, Hastain, 400kg, £1,200
Reserve Champion & 2nd prize bullock:
R. Maclean, 22 Balemore, 360kg, £1,120
Weaned bullocks (178) averaged 248p (+37p on year) and sold to 311.1p per kg for the reserve champion from Bayhead, and £1,200 gross for a pen of 450kg Charolais crosses from Clachan Farm, a 435kg Limousin cross from 38 Linique, Eochar and the Champion from Hastain.
Weaned heifers (108) averaged 223.6p (+31.7p on year) and sold to 313p per kg for a 230kg Limousin cross from 7 Borve, Berneray, and £980 gross for the 1st prize heifer a 415kg from No. 1 Clachan Farm.
Store bullocks (14) averaged 218.8p and sold to 276.2p per kg and £1,160 gross for a 420kg Limousin cross from 3 Hosta, Tigharry.
Store heifers (21) averaged 211.8p and sold to 280.5p per kg for a 385kg Limousin from 3 Hosta, and £1,180 gross for a 465kg Limousin cross from 13 Aird, Benbecula.
Breeding cattle (9) sold to £1,450 for a Hereford cross in calf cow from 1& 2 Gramsdale, Benbecula.
OTM cattle (10) sold to £940 gross for 780kg Limousin cross from 25 Balemore, Bayhead.
