Caithness Cattle Heavily Featured In Dingwall & Highland Marts Show And Sale Of Store Cattle

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (4th October 2007) sold 1,119 store and over thirty month cattle at their show and sale including
special Aberdeen Angus section.

The judge Mr Neil Anderson, Inverlochty, Elgin chose an 18 month, 495kg Charolais cross heifer as his champion from Upper Latheron, Caithness, which realised �700 to C Maciver, Easter Strath of Auchterflow. The reserve award went to a 475kg Charolais bullock also from Upper Latheron which realised �590 to A B Millar & Son, Moss-Side, Sandhaven.

Aberdeen Angus bullocks (265) averaged 115.6p and sold to 126.7p per kg for a 430kg Angus cross and �715 gross for a 565kg Angus cross both from Stemster Mains, Thurso.

Aberdeen Angus heifers (132) averaged 102.6p and sold to 114.8p per kg for a 479kg pure bred from Rattar Mains, Dunnet, and �560 for an Angus cross from Gaskbeg, Laggan.

Continental bullocks (446) averaged 118.8p and sold to 144p per kg for a 375kg Charolais cross from Mid Calder, Thurso, and �715 for a 675kg Simmental cross from Stromebhan, Lochmaddy.

Continental heifers (267) averaged 107.5p and sold to 141p per kg for a 495kg Charolais cross and �640 gross for a Charolais cross both from Upper Latheron. "A mixed show on offer combined with current restrictions and winter feed costs was refelected in a hesitant demand.
