Providing support during economic emergency. Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop has addressed the Scottish Parliament on the economic impact of COVID-19 in Scotland.

Free access to online NHS services will be available for as long as coronavirus (COVID-19) remains widespread in the UK. Vodafone, EE, O2 and Three are among the mobile firms that have said they will give their customers free online access to the latest NHS health information about coronavirus.
At today's meeting of the Highlands and Islands Local Resilience Partnership (HILRP) (Coronavirus/COVID-19,) members reviewed the emerging guidance from the Scottish Government on self and household isolation and the imminent closure of schools and nurseries which will impact on the staffing levels of all organisations and their capacity to carry out even core activities. Resilience Partnership members are currently exploring how staff can be redeployed from business as usual, as part of the response to limiting the spread of the virus, into other areas where staffing is proving challenging.

Education Secretary to make statement to Parliament tomorrow. Schools and nurseries are expected to close to pupils from the end of this week, the First Minister has announced.

A new Committee to address the economic and business issues presented by COVID-19 has met for the first time today. The Committee is chaired by Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, with Secretary of State for Business Alok Sharma as Deputy Chair.

HM Treasury and the Bank of England are today announcing a Covid Corporate Financing Facility (CCFF) to provide additional help to firms to bridge through Covid 19-related disruption to their cash flows. HM Treasury and the Bank are coordinating closely in order to ensure that our initiatives are complementary and that they will, collectively, have maximum impact, consistent with the Bank and HM Treasury's independent responsibilities.

Although the magnitude of the economic shock from Covid-19 is highly uncertain, activity is likely to weaken materially in the United Kingdom over the coming months.

Ground-breaking partnership announced. 200 staff from Eden Court Theatre to be redeployed into Education and other council services.
The Highland Council is planning for greatly increased staff absence levels over the coming days and weeks. National modelling estimates that councils will see absences of at least 50% over the months ahead.
