Covid-19: India Sees Record Deaths As Black Fungus Spreads Fear
India has recorded its highest weekly covid-19 death toll, reporting an average 4029 deaths a day in the seven days leading up to 13 May.   The increase comes at a time when the country's second wave was thought to have peaked, and raises further questions about India's true death toll, which most experts believe is far higher than official figures.

Lifting The Avian Influenza Prevention Zone
Poultry keepers advised to remain vigilant as heightened biosecurity measures lifted The Chief Veterinary Officers from Scotland, England and and Wales are advising poultry keepers to remain vigilant as the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) is due to be lifted from midday tomorrow (Saturday 15 May).   These additional biosecurity measures, which were introduced across Great Britain in November 2020, have been vital in protecting flocks across the country from the disease which is circulating in wild birds.

Glasgow And Moray To Remain In Level 3
Decision will be reviewed in a week, with additional support for businesses.   Glasgow and Moray will remain in Level 3 from Monday 17 May and travel to and from these areas will be prohibited other than for permitted purposes, due to a high rate of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

Council calls for a share for Highland in renewable energy profits
Members at today's full meeting of Highland Council agreed a motion from the Leader and Chair of Corporate Resources, which would call for a fairer share of income derived from the development of the region’s natural resources to establish a Highland Renewable Fund.   In the motion Highland Council Leader, Cllr Margaret Davidson, highlighted that at a time when private energy companies are making huge profits from the abundance of natural resources of wind and water in the Highlands the region’s roads were suffering.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (May, 12th) sold 426 store cattle and 2 adult head of breeding cattle.   Bullocks (209) averaged 247.1p and sold to 323.4p per kg for a 235kg Limousin cross from Polly Estate, Inverpolly and £1,490 gross for a 616kg Simmental cross from Kincraig Farm, Invergordon.

National Mòd Asks Highland Council For A Further £80,000 To Run The Inverness Mòd 2021
At the Highland Council Gaelic committee to beheld on 18th May 2021 the committee will be asked to agree that the National Mòd for Inverness in 2021 should be given a further £80,000.   The council has an agreement to pay £40,000 annually that aids the Mod to come to Highland every three years.
