Can You Give Some Time To Drive With Caithness Rural Transport

27th April 2023

Caithness Rural Transport members are growing daily and the service has expanded dramatically these past few months. The service relies on volunteers to cover any additional runs throughout the week that the main drivers/volunteers who have set days are unable to cover due to already having runs booked in. Using volunteer drivers means they are able to keep the fare costs to clients lower and most cost effective.

Caithness Rural Transport are looking to recruit more volunteers throughout Caithness who would be happy to join our team and help as and when they are required, if they are available. The more volunteers means it spreads out the runs over more people and makes things a little easier especially over holiday season etc when there can be a lot of volunteers unavailable at the same time.

Attached is a wee flyer along with some frequently asked questions. We are wondering if you could be so kind to distribute this to your members to see if this would interest anyone. If you would like any hard copies to hand out at future meetings/gatherings let us know and we can arrange to get them printed for you.

There are currently 17 volunteers recruited with 3 new volunteers pending and awaiting PVG checks. This is an amazing number of volunteers and without those the service would not be able to do half the amount of runs they currently do.

Volunteer Drivers Needed - At Caithness Rural Transport
Do you have some spare time and looking to help in your local community?

We are looking for volunteers to join our ever-growing service. We offer a vital service locally taking clients to hospital and doctor appointments, podiatry, shopping etc.

Without us many would not be able to attend appointments or get out and about.

We offer a personal door to door service for people living in rural areas regardless of age and our town service is open to elderly and disabled people.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I have to commit to a certain day and time each week?
A. No, we are delighted if you can help anytime. Unless you'd rather just commit to a set day we are happy with this too. Some of our current volunteers have set days and others just help us when they can, it all makes such a difference to our service.

Q. How would I know when you need me?
A. Once we get a booking in that requires us to find a volunteer we send an email out with the details to see if anyone is available to cover the run(s).

Q. Where will I take people?
A. We take people to hospital and doctor appointments, podiatry, opticians, shopping, dentist, hairdressers, visiting etc - the list is endless!

Q. Where do you cover?
A. We only cover within Caithness.

Q. Do I have to use my own car?
A. No, we have 10 buses which are based between Wick, Thurso and Dunbeath which you would use.

Q. I don't have D1 on my licence can I still drive for you?
A. Yes, absolutely as not all our buses require you to have D1 on your licence.

Q. Do I need to have any special training?
A. We provide all training required - general induction and runs with current drivers and also MiDAS training.

Q. How do I sign up?
A. Contact us in the office at Telford House, Williamson Street, Wick or you can drop us an email: transport@cvg.org.uk or you can give us a call on: 01955 605588. We would then
