PARTICLES EXTERNAL CONSULTATION STEERING GROUP FINAL MEETING
A steering group set up to oversee the transparency of consultation on particles held its final meeting on January 17. The final stage of consultation has now ended and the site expects to submit its proposed clean-up programme to SEPA by the end of January. If the recommendation is agreed UKAEA will start off-shore clean-up operations in the summer. Minutes of the steering group are available on the website.

DOUNREAY CLEAN-UP ACCELERATED TO 90 SECONDS
The decommissioning and clean-up of Dounreay has been shortened to 90 seconds - in a new video showing how the site is expected to disappear over the next 20 years or so. The animated sequence shows how the site will be demolished by 2032, leaving in place a handful of buildings needed for the storage of intermediate-level waste.

DOUNREAY MANAGER SHORTLISTED IN PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION
Congratulations to Neil Buchan, Dounreay's Engineering Assurance Manager who made it to the final shortlist of 13 of overall best picture in a photographic competition called project ThreeSixFive part of Highland 2007. During 2007 a different person from the Highlands and Islands was given a camera each week to record the events of their day-to-day lives. The images Neil had to take were of his own view of life in the Highlands and could include anything from a view from a bedroom window; a bowl of cereal/porridge in the morning, cultural or sporting events, colleagues at work the list was endless. Included in his selection were photographs of Dounreay's D2200 11kV substation and Shaft Isolation Project. Further information on the project and to view Neil's photographs can be found at http://www.highland2007.com/Default.aspx.LocID-07lnew025.RefLocID-07l008002001.Lang-EN.htm
A book is proposed with all the entries and profiles of the photographers which should be available in the next few months.
WORKERS GET THEIR REWARDS
In the last Bulletin we incorrectly reported that Doosan Babcock staff were the first to receive their SVQ Level 2 certificates in Nuclear Decommissioning Technology. In fact, staff from Nukem Ltd received their awards in 2005. They were the first candidates to successfully complete the award following the setting up and accreditation of the NUKEM test centre at Dounreay. We apologise for the error.
