Reaching customers overseas - Caithness event
Local business support organisations in Caithness are coming together on Thursday 12th May 2016 in Thurso to host an event as part of an ongoing initiative to help local businesses find out about, and harness, the support available to do business overseas. Entitled ‘Reaching Customers Overseas', the event will take place at Caithness Horizons between 1-4pm.25/4/2016
More places in Highlands and Islands get set for a superfast boost
More than 122,000 households and businesses across the Highlands and Islands now have access to their fastest-ever broadband speeds through the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband rollout. New street cabinets to deliver the high-speed services to the first of the premises in Sullom Voe in Shetland, Dores at Loch Ness and Connel in Argyll are among the latest to go live, with 70% of the region's total number of premises now able to connect.26/3/2016

Week Commencing 29 February 2016 Energy Business Services: The Scottish Government's recently-announced Transition Training Fund was established to help address the current labour market issues caused by the decline in the price of oil, and its knock-on effects on the economy. The Fund is to be managed by CNSRP partner Skills Development Scotland, and it's been useful to talk through with local SDS colleagues some of the early opportunities to help individuals affected.2/3/2016
Scotlands £1bn forestry industry to be outlined to north audience
An audience of around 60 north forestry professionals will gather in Inverness this week to hear how the future is shaping up for the sector. Three speakers will provide updates on the economic value of forestry in Scotland; progress towards driving up health and safety standards in the industry; and local forestry priorities for the north.1/3/2016

Energy & Business Services: It was good to speak last week with Magnus Davidson of Thurso's Environmental Research Institute (ERI) about the transnational EU-funded project called REGINA. The project aims to reduce the vulnerability of small communities in remoter areas of the Nordic Arctic and Scotland which face the development - or closing down of - large-scale industries.13/2/2016

Week Commencing 18th January 2016 Energy and Business Services: Dounreay Trì Limited is proposing to demonstrate a floating offshore wind farm approximately 6 km NW of Dounreay. The proposal consists of two turbines, located on a single semi-submersible floating platform, with an installed capacity of between 8 to 16 megawatts (MW).23/1/2016
Thurso Battery Man Heads For Massachusetts Institute of Technology
A Caithness entrepreneur is set to give his business a global boost after attending one of the worlds most renowned business executive development courses. Derek Campbell of Thurso battery and charger manufacturer Denchi Power, will be among 120 entrepreneurs from across the globe taking part in the Entrepreneurship Development Programme at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston at the end of January.15/1/2016

Week Commencing 11th January 2016 Energy and Business Services: Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd and independent energy company Danske Commodities have signed a 15-year power purchase agreement for the latter to manage 50% of the output from the Beatrice development to be built off the Caithness coast. As previously reported, CNSRP partners have been involved in helping Wick Harbour Authority as it discusses the opportunity for the operation and maintenance base for the BOWL development to be at Wick.9/1/2016

Week Commencing 14th December 2015 Energy and Business Services: Further movement in the tidal energy sector in Scotland this week, with the news that Atlantis Resources Ltd has reached an agreement with Scottish Power Renewables to purchase two of SPRs tidal projects in Scotland. The projects are a 10MW proposal for the Sound of Islay and a 100MW project at the Ness of Duncansby at the eastern end of the Pentland Firth.12/12/2015
