Update for Caithness and North Sutherland Partneship
Week commencing 10th September 2012 Energy: DSRL's Commercial Team will be holding two Supply Chain Briefings this month to give an update on the Shaft and Silo Decommissioning Project at Dounreay.The project comprises of the design, build, operations and decommissioning of limited-life plant and facilities necessary to retrieve and treat the waste from within the Dounreay Shaft and Wet Silo. The overall project is valued between £80M and £100M, so it represents a significant opportunity for supply-chain companies.4/9/2012
Disappointment as Many More Speeders Caught
Northern Constabulary and Tayside Police disappointed in speeding numbers in recent A9 campaign Officers from Northern Constabulary and Tayside Police have expressed concerns today following final figures from the ten-day A9 enforcement campaign from Perth to Inverness being released. The campaign, which ended on 25th August 2012, involved partners from VOSA, Northern and Tayside Camera Partnerships as well as officers from both Forces and aimed to reduce the number of collisions and the number of casualties within the busy month of August.3/9/2012

Police in Thurso Assist Youths Trapped On Cliffs
Police in Caithness and Sutherland are advising members of the public to be aware of the changing weather and tides in the area following the rescue of two youths. On the 31 August 2012 Police in Thurso and the Coastguard were alerted by a member of the public of two youths who were stranded on a cliff at Victoria Walk due to sudden incoming tides.3/9/2012
Police Numbers Above Target
Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill has welcomed figures confirming that the Scottish Government is continuing to exceed its target to deliver 1,000 additional police officers across the country. The latest Police Officer Quarterly Strength Statistics show that there were 17,373 police officers in Scotland on June 30, 2012.30/8/2012
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Chair Apponted
Pat Watters will be the first Chair of the new Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Community Safety Minister Roseanna Cunningham announced today. Mr Watters will work closely with Chief Officer Alasdair Hay to lead and shape the new service.

Scottish Police Authority Chair Appointed
Vic Emery OBE has been appointed as the first Chair of the new Scottish Police Authority (SPA), Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill announced today. Mr Emery will lead and shape the SPA and hold the new Police Service of Scotland and the Chief Constable to account.

Public agencies in the Highlands are leading the way in reducing carbon emissions from travel by using electric cars and vans for business use. In addition, the electric vehicles are expected to generate significant savings in both running costs when compared to hiring a regular car.

As partners build on the recent announcement of Marine Energy Park status for the Pentland Firth/ Orkney waters area and the Enterprise Area status for Scrabster, our discussions focused on ensuring that the message to potential investors remains clear and attractive and that local communities and stakeholders are kept informed of progress.16/8/2012

Enabling Activities: Enabling those who are currently out of work to find employment, helping school students to identify paths towards employment and supporting those seeking transition opportunities within the current workforce were the three drivers for a meeting I convened this week with colleagues from North Highland College, Skills Development Scotland, Caithness Chamber of Commerce and Highland Council's Employability team. The discussion was to progress plans for an event that promotes access to skills opportunities in new and emerging sectors with relevance to the area.17/7/2012

Dounreay Closure Costs Down By One Billion Pounds
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority says significant acceleration in the clean-up and shutdown of Dounreay will bring real value to the taxpayer who funds the work. Its chief executive John Clarke, writing in the organisation's annual report published today, says the award of the site closure contract earlier this year was a milestone in the NDA's mission to clean up the UK's nuclear legacy and bring down the cost.
