Population Challenges - Ministerial Group To Address Concerns
A Ministerial task group will consider Scotland's future population challenges and develop new solutions to address demographic and population change.   Against a backdrop of a record fall in the birth rate, Scotland’s population is ageing with a shift in population from the west to east and declining population in rural areas.

Businesses urged to sign up to Trades Services Framework events
People working in Highland trades businesses are being urged by The Highland Council to attend a supplier briefing roadshow event near them coming soon across the region if they wish to tender for future Council contracts.   The Council has created a new Trades Services Framework for repair, maintenance and minor works to maintain and improve the Council estate and to help deliver the Council's property maintenance programme for domestic and non-domestic properties.

Commenting on today's article, Anna Bodey, senior analyst at the Office for National Statistics, said:"Most of the larger public sector occupations, including doctors, nurses & midwives and primary school teachers, have a one-year retention rate above the UK workforce average.  One-year retention rates in the public sector were lower in 2016 to 2017 than they were in 2012 to 2013, with the biggest fall in rate for social workers and public sector care workers." Main points From 2016 to 2017, the UK workforce one-year retention rate was 83% and the public sector one-year retention rate was 84%.

Highland Council Trading Standards warns consumers of new "authorised push payment scam" targeting bank customers
Highland Council Trading Standards have been made aware that cold call telephone scammers have recently changed tactics and are now targeting individual bank customers to gain access to bank accounts and clear bank accounts of cash.   The so-called "authorised push payment scam" involves a fraudster impersonating a bank representative and phoning an unsuspecting potential victim by telephone.

Strengthening town centres in Caithness and Sutherland
The Highland Council is asking communities and other stakeholders for their thoughts and opinion on a draft strategy to improve the town centres of Brora, Dornoch, Golspie, Thurso and Wick.   The draft Caithness and Sutherland Town Centre Strategy presents several potential actions for each of the town centres.

The Highland Council's South Planning Applications Committee has today (Tuesday 11 June 2019) granted planning permission for a new centralised waste management facility (Materials Recovery Facility) on part of the former Longman landfill site in Inverness.   The facility is intended to support the Council in meeting forthcoming changes to national waste regulations.
