European Election 2019 Highland Results
Highland Council area result of 2019 European Parliamentary Election count.   The Local Returning Officer, Donna Manson has declared the result of the European Parliamentary Election for the Highland Council counting area in the Electoral Region of Scotland.

The sale of high-energy drinks to under-16s is being banned in hospital retail units.   The restriction will apply to drinks with an added caffeine content of more than 150mg/litre.

Scottish Government urged to invest further to restore air services to Skye
The Scottish Government is being urged to step up its support for the restoration of scheduled air services operating from Ashaig Airport, Broadford, Skye by providing additional funding and asking Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd to take over the lead role in delivering the project.   The call comes from the Skye Airport Working Group, which comprises representatives of The Highland Council, who own the airport, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and HITRANS, the regional transport partnership for the Highlands and Islands.

Social enterprises are to benefit from £5 million of new funding to enable them to access free specialist business advice.   The service gives one-to-one advice and workshops on specialist topics such as start-ups, business planning, marketing and pre-investment support.

Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd - Sale 24 May 2019
FORT WILLIAM, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd., (May, 24th) sold 123 store cattle, 5 adult head of breeding cattle, 12 OTM cattle and 746 sheep.   Bullocks (61) averaged 215.6p and sold to 295.8p per kilo for a pair of 240kg Charolais crosses from Moy Farm, Banavie, and £980 gross a 520kg Limousin cross from Balmaglaster, Spean Bridge.

Growth In The Non-british Population In Scotland Ends
Scotland's population growth has slowed and net migration decreased over the past two years, according to population estimates from the National Records of Scotland.   Statistics published today show the number of non-British nationals living in Scotland remaining stable, ending the period of growth following the EU expansion.

Rise In European Visitors
The number of European visitors to Scotland increased by 19% in 2018, according to official statistics released today.   Overall there was a 10% increase in visits from overseas tourists and a 1.2% increase in domestic (Great Britain) overnight visits to Scotland.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (May, 22nd) sold 91 pedigree and commercial Luing cattle at their eleventh annual spring breeding sale sponsored by W & A Geddes and Harbro Ltd.   Pedigree bulling heifers (47) averaged £2,084.36 and sold to 2,750gns (£2,887.50), twice for 25 month old heifers from Mr G.

The Highland Council's Environmental Health Team is advising users of private water supplies to take preventative steps to preserve their drinking water.  Following a mild Winter and Spring, there is increasing pressures on water supplies.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (May, 22nd) sold the complete dispersal of the pedigree Shorthorn herd from Smallburn Farm comprising of 21 adult head of breeding cattle.   Lot 1 - Shawhill Fancy sired by Alvie Blue Eyedboy she has a heifer calf at foot and is back in calf to Meonside Javelin she sold for 4,000gns to Messrs S.

The public consultation on the proposed contents of the Highland Council Common Good Asset Register is due to close on Wednesday 5 June 2019.  There is still time to consider the lists published on the Council's website and to make comments.

There will be minimal impact on PSA posts due to extensive work done to protect staff through the holding back over 50 vacant posts and identifying other opportunities within the council.   We have committed to avoiding compulsory redundancies.

Almost £70 million has been invested in housing projects through the Building Scotland Fund (BSF) since its launch last year.  This money has supported the development of 5,500 new homes and around 600 full time jobs The BSF, which is a precursor to the Scottish National Investment Bank, provides loans to support the delivery of homes both for sale and for rent.
