Experts Comment On 2016 Scottish Election Results
Commenting on last night's election results, the political challenges they imply for the Scottish Parliament and the diversity of the newly elected MSPs, Friends and Fellows of the Centre on Constitutional Change made the following observations: Professor Michael Keating (1) said,"The main story is that the SNP did not exceed their 2011 performance but that that is disappointing only in comparison with 2015. The Conservatives have moved forward in gaining constituencies and Labour had a very bad night.

Reaching customers overseas - Caithness event
Local business support organisations in Caithness are coming together on Thursday 12th May 2016 in Thurso to host an event as part of an ongoing initiative to help local businesses find out about, and harness, the support available to do business overseas. Communities to be consulted on public conveniences
The budget for operating public conveniences across Highland was reduced by £250,000 in 2016/17 and a further £344,000 in 2017/18, at Highland Council in February 2016 as part of the overall budget savings, leaving a budget of £639,000 thereafter. The council operates 102 public conveniences and 27 comfort schemes with annual costs of £1.233 million.3/5/2016

Pay all social care workers living wage, says UNISON
UNISON is calling on all employers to pay the living wage to care workers and all councils to adopt UNISON's Ethical Care Charter in its Social care manifesto for Scotland to improve working conditions for some of the worst paid public workers in Scotland. Top marks from Education Scotland Inspectors for North Highland College UHI
North Highland College UHI has received a very positive report following a recent Education Scotland review of its Further Education provision across its campuses in Thurso, Dornoch and Alness. The independent review, carried out by Education Scotland inspectors on behalf of the Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council (SFC), took place in February and resulted in an overall judgement of "effective", the highest level possible.

Housing initiatives aim to prevent homelessness and improve people's lives
Members of the Community Services Committee have warmly welcomed the initiatives being undertaken to prevent homelessness and improve the lives of homeless people in Highland. The Temporary Accommodation Re-Provisioning Project aims to reduce the use of leased private sector rooms and bed and breakfast type accommodation and invest the savings generated in the building and acquisition of Council owned accommodation.28/4/2016

Record year for regional airport operator
Regional airport operator HIAL has handled more passengers than ever, according to latest figures for the last financial year. The airport group, which operates 11 airports across Scotland, handled 1,437,625 passengers in 2015/16, up by more than 6000 on the previous year.

Xodus wins framework agreement for Employers Representative Services with SSE
Xodus Group has been awarded a framework agreement with energy company SSE to provide Employers Representative Services for the development and ongoing improvements of its electrical networks. The contract is for three years with potential extension for a further two years and is estimated to be worth in excess of £1million.

More places in Highlands and Islands get set for a superfast boost
More than 122,000 households and businesses across the Highlands and Islands now have access to their fastest-ever broadband speeds through the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband rollout. New street cabinets to deliver the high-speed services to the first of the premises in Sullom Voe in Shetland, Dores at Loch Ness and Connel in Argyll are among the latest to go live, with 70% of the region's total number of premises now able to connect.25/4/2016
