Independent review team call for views. Views are being sought on the use of standardised assessments for Primary 1 (P1) children as part of the independent review led by David Reedy.
Planning permission is sought to construct a new healthcare and multidisciplinary life sciences centre to serve the Highlands and Islands area and is a collaborative project between NHS Highland, the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). Councillors have been asked to give planning permission for a healthcare and life sciences innovation centre in Inverness.
Newton Rooms are designed to encourage more young people into careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). A network of the centres in Norway work with schools and local employers to provide inspirational STEM education in the most rural parts of the country.
The average weekly rent charged by The Highland Council to its 13,411 council house tenants is set to increase by 3% for the coming financial year 2019/20. The average weekly rent will rise from £73.22 to £75.42 - an increase of £2.20 per week.

Major new report highlights global impact of Scottish research. Scotland continues to punch above its weight in science and research, according to a new report published by the Scottish Science Advisory Council (SSAC).
Santander has today announced plans to reshape its branch network and close 140 branches in response to changes in how customers are choosing to carry out their banking. Santander's future branch network will be made up of a combination of larger branches offering improved community facilities to support local businesses and customers, and smaller branches using the latest technology to offer customers more convenient access to banking services.
RECRUITMENT is to commence for a new hub in Highland to avoid children going to placements out with the Highland area. The first hub for a new model of temporary residential provision and multi-agency assessment is in Fodderty in East Ross.
The Highland Council is seeking public opinion on Draft Traffic Regulation Orders for the further roll out of Decriminalised Parking Enforcement (DPE) across the Highlands in:Alness, Brora, Broadford, Dingwall, Dunvegan, Grantown On Spey, Invergordon, Inverness, Kyle of Lochalsh, Kyleakin, Mallaig, Nairn, Portree, Scrabster, Sligachan , Storr, Tain, Thurso, Ullapool and Wick. DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (January 23th) sold 647 store cattle, 49 adult head of breeding cattle 101 OTM cattle. Bullocks (400) averaged 212.2p and sold to 263.8p per kilo for a 235kg British Blue cross from Shewglie Farmers, Glenurquhart, and £1,295 gross for a pen of 629kg Aberdeen Angus crosses from South Balkeith, Tain. Heifers (237) averaged 212.9p and sold to 243.5p per kilo for a pair of 310kg Limousin crosses from Wester Tomloan, Ardclach, and £1,185 gross for a 580kg Charolais cross from The Cloy, Fortrose.

More patients will have access to online outpatient services after NHS Highland gave the green light to expand the programme. Patient's from two more hospitals will be able to attend appointments from the comfort of their own home thanks to specially staffed clinics using video-consulting technology.

Workers denied pay they say is still owed to them after the collapse of the Dundee business Workers, many of whom were hired through a Council employability scheme, claim they are owed almost £8000 in unpaid wages and other payments from Brassica, which went into liquidation in 2018 One of Brassica's owners, Dr Rami Sarraf, is now opening a new venture on the same site called Brassica Ecosse.

A bulletin issued by the Office for National Statistics gives details exports in services July To September 2018. The European Union remained the UK's largest trading partner for both exports and imports of services in Q3 2018, while the USA was the largest trading partner when considering individual countries.

Work is progressing well on the realignment of the B9090 at the White Bridge scheme and new crossing. Construction of the abutments for the new crossing beams is complete and the beams were successfully placed this week on Monday 21st January.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (January, 22nd) sold 17 prime cattle. Prime bullocks (1) averaged 211.0p (+4.6p) and sold to 211.0p per kg and £1,234.35 gross.

No Snow in Caithness today but read on - - As the Met Office issues a nationwide alert for icy conditions and wintry showers over the next twenty four hours, breakdown cover provider Green Flag predicts 43,000 incidents, including 11,481 battery-related issues on UK roads over Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd January 2019. Forecasters are predicting showers bringing rain, hail sleet or snow showers on Tuesday evening, followed by a widespread frost with icy patches across much of the country that will continue into Wednesday.

The number of people in work in the UK has reached a record level of 32.54 million according to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics. Unemployment was flat, with a small increase of 8,000 between September and November for a total of 1.37 million.
