An award winning mural designed by North Primary School promoting recycling has been used to create eye-catching banners which will be on display at the Council's Recycling Centres at Wick and Seater.
The Recycling Mural competition, run by the Council's Waste Aware Team, proved to be very popular with 55 primary schools submitting a total of 119 entries, with a wide array of styles and ideas.
Chairman of the TEC Services Committee, Councillor John Laing was on the judging panel. He said: "The creativity and imagination of the young people is incredible and all of the entries had come up with clever, eye-catching ways to promote the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle message. It was obvious that a lot of hard work and thought had gone into all the designs which made my job as one of the judges very difficult. After much deliberation the entry from the North Primary pupils was chosen to be displayed at their local Recycling Centres. The pupils from the school all worked together to produce a really effective and colourful mural which looks striking as a large banner. It is encouraging to see our young people are so aware of important recycling issues. The banners will help to remind us all to make full use of the wide range of waste recycling facilities at our network of Recycling Centres."
Pupils from the school visited the Wick Recycling Centre on Wednesday 15th June to unveil their winning entry.
