High Life Highland takes over community learning and leisure services
From Saturday (1 October 2011) High Life Highland, an arms length company with charitable status, takes over the management and delivery of community learning and leisure services from The Highland Council.
More than 1,000 staff working in adult learning, archives, arts, leisure facilities, libraries, museums, outdoor education, sport and youth work will transfer from the employment of the Council to the new company. The company will have a turnover of more than £20 million a year.
The transferring of these responsibilities to a charitable company will save the Council approximately £1 million per year. This will avoid potential reductions in services to our communities to that amount.
The Board comprises of the following 12 Directors:

The chairman elected by the Board is Councillor Drew Millar, a Councillor from Skye and vice-chairman is Laurence Young.
Councillor Millar said: "I am delighted on my appointment as Chair and the Board is looking forward to an exciting, though challenging, first 6 months but are committed to maintaining the high quality service which has been provided up till now by the Council and where possible improving and enhancing within the present financial restraints."
The Board have appointed Ian Murray as Chief Executive. He is currently the Council's Head of Community Learning and Leisure.
