Scotland's Test and Protect contact tracing system will see its workforce bolstered with the deployment of additional staff over the coming week to help address a rising number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases. Health Secretary Humza Yousaf said recent changes to the system are helping its performance and the way it operates will continue to evolve as vaccination levels rise.

All adults aged 18-39 are now being invited forward to get their first dose of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine between now and the end of July, depending on vaccine supply. This will ensure that Scotland is able to move to level 0 on 19 July, and then lift all remaining COVID-19 restrictions on 9 August.

Employment Minister Richard Lochhead has expressed concern and frustration at the continuing lack of clarity from the UK Government on how new EU replacement funds will be delivered in Scotland. In a five page letter to UK Ministers, Mr Lochhead lists two years of unanswered questions covering the structure and management of the funds and how they will respect devolution.

Projects that restore nature, safeguard wildlife and tackle the causes of biodiversity loss and climate change will get a share of £10 million through a new Scottish Government fund. The Nature Restoration Fund will support a mix of urban and rural-focused projects, such as improving greenspace for outdoor learning, green active travel routes, planting of wildlife corridors and natural flood management.

Eligible families can apply for a grant of at least £120 to help with the cost of school uniforms. The Scottish Government and local authority leaders have reached an agreement to increase the national school clothing grant to a minimum of £120 per eligible primary school pupil and £150 per eligible secondary school pupil.

Following a meeting yesterday, Friday 2 July, with the Secretary of State for Scotland, Trade Minister Ivan McKee has written to the UK Government seeking their urgent cooperation to deliver green ports in Scotland. Adapting the UK Government freeport proposals, the aim of Scottish green ports is to offer a package of tax and customs reliefs to operators and their beneficiaries who adopt fair work practices and contribute to Scotland's just energy transition to net zero.

An additional £380 million is being allocated to Health Boards to help with costs arising from the pandemic. This comes on top of the £1.7 billion already provided to Health Boards and Health and Social Care Partnerships last year.
