A more stable trend is now emerging in the Scottish housing market, according to the latest results for the Royal Instituteof chartered Surveyors (RICS) UK Residential Market Survey. Although anecdotal commentary from respondents remains mixed, contributors reported a rise in buyer demand whilst newly agreed sales also gained a little momentum.

The Scottish Government has today (12 July 2019) published an impact assessment for Non Domestic Rates sometimes known as business rates in respect of the Non-Domestic Rates (Scotland) Bill introduced into Parliament on 25 March 2019. The paper sets out a series of possible options.

The Moray Growth Deal will see £65 million invested in creating high-value jobs, strengthening local communities and safeguarding the future of the local economy. The Scottish Government will invest up to £32.5 million in Moray over 10 to 15 years to drive inclusive economic growth across the region, with the UK Government matching the funding over a 15 year period.

The Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) has launched the 32nd Offshore Licensing Round with 768 blocks or part-blocks on offer across the main producing areas of the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS). Acreage is on offer in the Central North Sea, Northern North Sea, Southern North Sea and the West of Shetlands.

The Highland Council is clearing up in Dingwall after last evening's severe flash flooding in the town. Roads affected in and around Dingwall were the A834 from the traffic lights at Newton road and High street Junction towards the Police station and West end.

The UK's most northerly mainland distillery, Dunnet Bay Distillers, is scouring the UK for exceptional artwork to feature in its debut exhibition, ‘Inspired by Gin'. The distillery will play host to the exhibition from December 2019 - March 2020 at its new Visitor Centre, which is a VisitScotland 5 Star Visitor Attraction and a centre for food and drink, culture and heritage tourism.

A special drop-in event will take place on Tuesday 23 July 2019 in Mackay's Hotel from 2pm to 6pm to give people the opportunity to see maps of the current conservation area and put forward their comments.

People facing homelessness will have better access to support with new legislation coming into effect later this year. Last year the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Group recommended changes to homelessness laws, and analysis of consultation responses published today show support for the measures.

The SNP Government has hammered Highland Council with cuts to its budget, putting lifeline services at risk. New figures from the independent Scottish Parliament Information Centre (Spice) show that between 2013-14 and 2018-19, the local authority's budget was cut by £176 per person in real terms.
Start-up businesses in the Outer Hebrides could receive a welcome injection of capital from a new joint initiative by Business Gateway Outer Hebrides and Highlands and Islands enterprise. The Outer Hebrides Young Entrepreneur Start-Up Scheme (OHYESS), will provide grants of up to £2,500 to support entrepreneurs age 18-40 to set up businesses in key sectors across the Outer Hebrides.
