Graduating Apprentices "the Future Of The Far North"

Eleven young people who have completed their Dounreay apprentice training are "very much a part of the future of the far north." Guest speaker Jamie Stone MP told the audience at the apprentice indenture ceremony that took place last Friday that, as Dounreay continues to decommission, the newly indentured apprentices would be an important part of the area's ability to offer a skilled and innovative workforce.   Dounreay Managing Director and former nuclear industry apprentice Phil Craig added: “I am very proud that we are celebrating yet another group of talented apprentices.  

Four Scottish local authorities successful in multi-million pound active travel design competition, Community Links PLUS

The Minister for Transport and Islands Humza Yousaf MSP, today announced that five ambitious active travel proposals from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and Inverness have been successful in the final judging of the Sustrans Scotland's Community Links PLUS (CLPLUS) competition.   Run by Sustrans and funded by the Scottish Government, the competition delivers pioneering and game-changing projects which inspire public bodies in Scotland to design better places and spaces for people to live, walk and cycle in for everyday journeys.

£600,000 For Projects To Help Communities In Africa

A project to install a solar-powered electricity grid to power a cooling system for milk production, is among six initiatives benefitting from £600,000 to help some of Africa's poorest communities rise to the challenges of climate change The funding, which is being awarded to Scottish organisations working with partners in Africa, is designed to support fragile communities in creating new jobs and sources of income, improve food security and the supply of water and energy, and meet the challenges of a changing climate.   It is part of the Climate Justice Fund which will distribute £3m per year over five years to help developing countries, who are less likely to have contributed to climate change, but often suffer the most from the impact, as part of Scotland’s response to the Paris climate agreement.  

Wes Takes Steps To Harness The Waves With New Control Systems Funding

Wave Energy Scotland (WES) has just announced over £660K of funding for 13 new projects aiming to develop innovative control systems for wave energy converters.   This initiative brings together control systems specialists from mature sectors such as aerospace and oil and gas, to work with Scottish technology developers in addressing the challenges of controlling and integrating Wave Energy Converter (WEC) systems and their components.  

Consortium Is Awarded Long-term CFD For 950Mw Offshore Wind Project In UK

EDP Renováveis, S.A.  ("EDPR") and ENGIE are pleased to announce that Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Limited, a joint venture company currently owned by EDPR (77%) and ENGIE (23%), has been awarded a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD)[1] for the delivery of 950 MW of offshore wind generation at £57.50/MWh (in real 2012 terms).

Transport Scotland has launched two public consultations to help shape the future of bus operations and also smart ticketing.   ‘Local Bus Services in Scotland - Improving the Framework for Delivery' and ‘The Future of Smart Ticketing in Scotland’ are open to the public from today (13 September) and will run for 12 weeks until 5 December.  

£1.3m Over 3 Years To Support Locally-produced Food In Scottish Public Sector

Plans to increase the use of Scottish produce in schools, hospitals and other public sector organisations have been unveiled today by Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing.   £1.2 million has been confirmed to expand the current Food for Life programme, to increase the amount of locally-sourced and produced food in Scotland's schools.
