Chair of Resources Councillor Alister Mackinnon and Scrutiny Lead for Police and Fire Services, Councillor Matthew Reiss visited the Dundee Police Control Room on Monday 18 September 2017, following an invitation from Police Scotland. Cllr Reiss said: "We welcomed the opportunity to see for ourselves how the new contact, command and control approach is intended to work.
Eleven young people who have completed their Dounreay apprentice training are "very much a part of the future of the far north." Guest speaker Jamie Stone MP told the audience at the apprentice indenture ceremony that took place last Friday that, as Dounreay continues to decommission, the newly indentured apprentices would be an important part of the area's ability to offer a skilled and innovative workforce. Dounreay Managing Director and former nuclear industry apprentice Phil Craig added: “I am very proud that we are celebrating yet another group of talented apprentices.

The Minister for Transport and Islands Humza Yousaf MSP, today announced that five ambitious active travel proposals from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and Inverness have been successful in the final judging of the Sustrans Scotland's Community Links PLUS (CLPLUS) competition. Run by Sustrans and funded by the Scottish Government, the competition delivers pioneering and game-changing projects which inspire public bodies in Scotland to design better places and spaces for people to live, walk and cycle in for everyday journeys.

New research has revealed that almost five million people across the UK are putting themselves at risk from carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks, fires and explosions by employing illegal gas engineers who aren't properly qualified.

This Gas Safety Week (18-24 September2017) Dr. Ranj Singh is supporting Gas Safe Register to raise awareness of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and its symptoms as a third (32%) of people would not recognise them, misdiagnosing symptoms for other illnesses.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon today announced that Scotland's new social security agency will be headquartered in Dundee, bringing hundreds of jobs to the city. The new agency will also have a site in Glasgow, with the two locations together creating at least 1,500 jobs split evenly between the two cities.

A project to install a solar-powered electricity grid to power a cooling system for milk production, is among six initiatives benefitting from £600,000 to help some of Africa's poorest communities rise to the challenges of climate change The funding, which is being awarded to Scottish organisations working with partners in Africa, is designed to support fragile communities in creating new jobs and sources of income, improve food security and the supply of water and energy, and meet the challenges of a changing climate. It is part of the Climate Justice Fund which will distribute £3m per year over five years to help developing countries, who are less likely to have contributed to climate change, but often suffer the most from the impact, as part of Scotland’s response to the Paris climate agreement.
Week commencing 11 September 2017 Energy & business services: The UK Government's department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) this week announced its latest round of awards through the "Contracts for Difference" mechanism, in which there was mixed news for area projects. The Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) development consented for the Moray Firth - received an award, whilst the MeyGen tidal energy project did not.
Wave Energy Scotland (WES) has just announced over £660K of funding for 13 new projects aiming to develop innovative control systems for wave energy converters. This initiative brings together control systems specialists from mature sectors such as aerospace and oil and gas, to work with Scottish technology developers in addressing the challenges of controlling and integrating Wave Energy Converter (WEC) systems and their components.

EMEC has generated green hydrogen gas demonstrating potential for a clean replacement for polluting fuels The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) has produced hydrogen gas using electricity generated from tidal energy in Orkney. This is the first time that hydrogen has been created from tidal energy anywhere in the world.

EDP Renováveis, S.A. ("EDPR") and ENGIE are pleased to announce that Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Limited, a joint venture company currently owned by EDPR (77%) and ENGIE (23%), has been awarded a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD)[1] for the delivery of 950 MW of offshore wind generation at £57.50/MWh (in real 2012 terms).

Transport Scotland has launched two public consultations to help shape the future of bus operations and also smart ticketing. ‘Local Bus Services in Scotland - Improving the Framework for Delivery' and ‘The Future of Smart Ticketing in Scotland’ are open to the public from today (13 September) and will run for 12 weeks until 5 December.

Following the statement, that NHS unions are today (Friday) breaking with tradition and submitting a pay claim directly to the UK government on behalf of more than one million health workers across the UK. NHS unions in Scotland say they will be meeting Scottish employers on (Wednesday) 20th September 2017 submit the exact same pay claim to their employers at the NHS Scottish terms and conditions committee.

Plans to increase the use of Scottish produce in schools, hospitals and other public sector organisations have been unveiled today by Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing. £1.2 million has been confirmed to expand the current Food for Life programme, to increase the amount of locally-sourced and produced food in Scotland's schools.

Finance Secretary Derek Mackay has written to opposition parties asking for confirmation of their proposals for income tax policy in Scotland, in order for them to be included in a discussion paper as announced in the Programme for Government. The paper will be published later this year, ahead of the 2018/19 draft budget.
