Planning for Integration - development of a lead agency model in Highland for care services Members of The Highland Council and directors of NHS Highland will be asked on Thursday 12th May to agree far-reaching plans to integrate health, education and social care services in the Highlands by April 2012, using a lead agency model that would see NHS Highland provide services for adult community care and the Council providing services for children. The first of two joint meetings is being held on Thursday 12 May at the Council Chamber in Inverness to agree that the case for change, first proposed in December of last year, is proven and to confirm that the lead agency model is the preferred way of delivering integrated services.

Over thirty schools in the Highlands will be celebrating the wedding of HRH Prince William to Catherine Middleton on 29 April with organised events and activities involving over 4,000 pupils, teachers and local communities. Many schools are organising mock weddings, various street parties, and wedding feasts.
Council remains vigilant in campaign to retain full coastguard and tug services. The Highland Council has assured rescue staff in the Western Isles of its total support for the retention of a 24 x 7 coastguard service in Stornoway and the emergency towing vessel that patrols the Minches from its Stornoway base.

Better Choices, Better Deals: New strategy to empower consumers A radical new approach to give more power to consumers in their relationships with business, was announced today. Under the plans announced by Edward Davey businesses will provide key information to their customers on how they use and buy goods and services.
A record number of Highland electors have applied to vote by post at the Scottish Parliamentary elections and the national referendum on the UK voting system on Thursday 5 May. A total of 25,137 electors across the three Highland constituencies of Caithness, Sutherland and Ross; Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch and Inverness and Nairn will be receiving their postal votes from tomorrow (Tuesday).
The Highland Council has submitted its latest Development Plan Scheme to Scottish Ministers. This document sets out the key pieces of work being undertaken by the Development Plans Team over the coming year, and sets out how people can get involved with these projects.
The Highland Council has prepared new planning guidance for wind energy developments and now wants to hear what the people of the Highlands, developers and interest groups think about it. The new guidance will be used in the consideration of planning applications for wind energy developments.

Disabled employees of 9 public sector organisations have joined forces to set up a network to work with employers to improve, enhance and promote equality in the work place. The Employees Disability Equality Network (EDEN) was officially launched in Inverness in response to calls from public sector staff.

Thousands of businesses and members of the public have taken up the Red Tape Challenge, with over 6,000 ideas and suggestions in the first week of the new website, which is part of the Plan for Growth. Comments have called for changes to, and the end of, many of the rules and regulations that affect the retail sector, from Sunday Trading to bike safety.

The Dornoch Rail Link Action Group is dedicated to pursuing the strategic upgrade of the Inverness - Thurso/ Wick railway line, with the Dornoch Firth Rail Link as its key component. This will revolutionise rail transport across the North Highlands, give a major boost to the local economy and provide alternatives to road transport not currently realised.

Risk of the spread of disease in livestock from dog faeces Briefing Note for Access Authorities The purpose of this note is to provide local and national park authority Access Officers with information and advice about the risk of the transmission of diseases in livestock from contaminated dog faeces. Disease in livestock There is growing evidence of the links between two specific diseases in livestock and the presence on grazing land of faeces from infected dogs.
The AGM will be held on the 25th May at 7.30pm in the Castlehill Heritage Centre, Castletown. Three directors Jean Clasper, David Bertram and Irvine Smith will stand down from office by rotation, being eligible they will stand again for re-election.

Local lass Gail Ross won her council seat for Wick easily. Today at the count she came out way ahead after the various counts.
Highland Councillors have been assured that a �66 million ICT contract with Fujitsu is being robustly monitored to ensure that upgrades of computer and telephony equipment in Council offices and schools are delivered. Councillor Carolyn Wilson, Chairman of the Resources Committee, said she was satisfied that clear signs of improvement in performance were evident following recent high level meetings with Fujitsu representatives as well as through reports on local delivery.
