Call To Scrap UK Voter ID Requirements
Requirements for voter identification brought in by the previous UK Government should be scrapped, the Minister for Parliamentary Business for the Scottish Government has said.   Jamie Hepburn has highlighted evidence from the Electoral Commission that the new requirements kept potential voters away from the ballot box at the recent UK Parliamentary election, and fears misunderstanding around the need for ID could have a similar impact in Scotland.

Mortgage Prices Gone Up As Interest Rates Have Gone Down - Why?
The Bank of England may have cut interest rates by 0.25% but a number of big mortgage lenders have increased their prices this week.   Barclays and Natwest became the latest high street banks to announce they intend to increase their fixed mortgage rates, following hot on the heels of Santander, HSBC, Nationwide and TSB.

Low-to-middle Income Families Across Britain Have Got Older And Sicker Over The Past Three Decades, But They Are Still More Likely To Be In Work
50 is the new 20 for the 13 million families that make up an older, modern-day low-to-middle income Britain, who are also more likely to suffer from poor health or a disability compared to three decades ago.  But despite these headwinds, which have come to the fore since the pandemic, lower-income families are far more likely to be in work today than they were in the mid-1990s, according to new research published on 13 November 2024 by the Resolution Foundation.
