HIE Board backs £13m investment in major projects
Businesses and communities in Caithness, Orkney and the Outer Hebrides look set to benefit from investment in major infrastructure projects approved today (Monday 22 November) by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).   The HIE Board (Monday 22 November) has approved grants totalling more than £13m to develop three major projects.

MeyGen today announces entry into an 'Agreement for Lease' with The Crown Estate for the Pentland Firth Inner Sound tidal power site.   MeyGen is a joint venture between independent power generator International Power plc (45%), investment bank Morgan Stanley (45%), and tidal technology provider Atlantis Resources Corporation (10%), dedicated to developing the Inner Sound tidal site.

Local Residents To Be Presented With RNLI Honorary Awards
Six residents from the Highlands and Western Isles are to be presented with an Honorary Award by the RNLI in recognition of their outstanding support to the charity.  Four are to receive a gold badge, the third highest honour bestowed by the charity upon fundraising volunteers.

Wick, on the east coast of Caithness, received a major confidence boost this week, following news that a £576,000 funding package (loan and grant) has been secured to install a marina development in the town's harbour.   The deal has required complex negotiations between the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) which is providing the vital funding conduit.

New Wick Harbour Authority Launches Revamped Web Site And Newsletter
Wick Harbour Authority is the new body that controls Wick Harbour.   The former Wick Harbour Trust was consigned to history last July and more modern set up came into being with a board of directors rather than trustees.  
Fathoms Dive Into Training
A sub sea services company specialising in the offshore and onshore monitoring and removal of radiological contamination is training two of its key staff in health physics with assistance from Caithness and Sutherland Enterprise (CASE).   Fathoms Ltd, which operates from Wick harbour, has received a training and development scheme grant from the local enterprise company to allow the two members of staff to undertake City and Guilds levels one and two in radiation safety practice.
