North Highland Regeneration Fund 8th Annual AGM
Date: 21 Nov 2014 The Eighth Annual General Meeting of the North Highland Regeneration Fund is to be held on Friday 21st November 2014, at the Pentland Hotel, Thurso from 11am. The scheduling for the AGM will be as follows: Approve the minutes of the 2013 Annual General Meeting Receive the Report of the Directors and the Audited Accounts for the year ended 31st March 2014.6/11/2014

Week Comencing 3 November 2014 Energy & Business services: SSE has this week agreed to sell part of its stake in the Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd development to Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). SSE will now own 50% of BOWL, with CIP owning 25% and Repsol continuing to own the remaining 25%.1/11/2014

Week Commencing 27th October 2014 Energy & Business services: Following much recent work by HIE's local team, especially Roy Kirk and CNSRP partner secondees June Love (from DSRL) and Lindsay Foord (from Highland Council), this week saw a visit by oil & gas companies to Caithness. It was good to see more than twenty representatives from a range of companies, who were greeted by Cllr Gail Ross, Highland Council's Civic Leader for Caithness.14/10/2014
Thousands more Highland homes in line for superfast broadband
More than 15,000 homes and businesses across Highland will benefit from the next phase of fibre broadband roll-out, as part of the £146m Digital Highlands and Islands project. Work over the next six months will bring next generation broadband to 15 new communities in the Highlands and Islands, and roll-out is extending into Caithness for the first time.8/10/2014

Nuclear Archive At Wick - Pre-Qualification For Contractors Announced
Pre-qualification to find a contractor to build a new national nuclear archive in Wick has commenced, it has been announced. The total cost of the new archive is in the region of £17 million.26/9/2014

Week Commencing 22 September 2014 Energy & Business services: Moray Offshore Renewables Ltd (MORL) has announced the installation of a met mast at its large offshore wind site in the Moray Firth, marking another step in its project to develop the site which lies around 22km off the Caithness coast. As previously reported here, MORL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Wick Harbour Authority regarding potential future use of Wick harbour.19/9/2014

Period 25 August - 15 September 2014 Energy & Business services: Tidal energy plans for the Pentland Firth have received a massive boost with news that financial closure (UK leads marine energy revolution as world's largest tidal stream project agrees investment to begin construction in Scotland | MeyGen) was reached for Phase 1 of the build out of Atlantis resources' Meygen site in the Inner Sound of the Firth. Support for this has come from CNSRP partners HIE and Scottish Government (via the Renewable Energy Investment Fund) as well as The Crown Estate and the Department of Energy & Climate Change.18/9/2014
NDA supply chain event proving popular once more
Almost 800 delegates have already signed up to attend the NDA estate's 2014 event for suppliers in November - but there is still room for several hundred more visitors. The exhibition hall meanwhile is approaching full capacity, providing delegates with the opportunity to meet with 260 companies from across the supply chain.

Government Takes Action to Promote the Provision of Affordable Credit Through Credit Unions
The Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Andrea Leadsom, today encouraged employers and voluntary sector organisations to engage with credit unions to help them provide affordable credit and responsible financial services in their communities. Following the launch of the government's call for evidence on credit unions in June, the Economic Secretary today visited London Mutual Credit Union to hear first-hand how credit unions are providing a payday loan product at a fraction of the costs charged by payday lenders.9/8/2014
NDA decommissioning supply chain event returns
The NDA estate's showcase event for suppliers is returning for a fourth year and is looking forward to welcoming even more visitors and exhibitors. Energy & Business services: As financial closure for the Meygen tidal project approaches, RE News last week reported that parent company Atlantis Resources had agreed a contract with Andritz Hydro Hammerfest to supply three 1.5MW turbines for its initial deployment in the Inner Sound of the Pentland Firth.4/8/2014

Week Commencing 28 July 2014 Energy & Business services: It has been another good week for Wick Harbour. Following the recent news that Wick Harbour Authority had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Moray Offshore Renewables Ltd, thus maintaining their position as a potential base for MORL's offshore wind operations, this week has seen Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd (BOWL) announce that Wick Harbour is the preferred location for its operations and maintenance base in support of its development off the Caithness coast.25/7/2014
Subsea cabling work started to create Scottish islands fibre broadband network
The biggest fibre cable laying project undertaken in the UK in recent years has begun on the West Coast of Scotland to deliver superfast broadband to some of the country's most remote island communities. Thousands of homes and businesses are set to benefit from the publicly funded digital network being built to bring world class connectivity to Scotland.

Week Commencing 14th July 2014 Energy & Business services: We welcomed a new business to the area this week, with Aberdeen-based Process Safety Solutions (PSS) opening a new base at the HIE-owned Wick Business Park. The opening was carried out by John Swinney MSP, the Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth whilst the Scottish Cabinet was in Wick this week.18/7/2014
Global buyers to sample Highlands and Islands food and drink
Twenty-one food and drink businesses from the Highlands and Islands will attend an unprecedented ‘meet the buyer' event ahead of the Commonwealth Games. The Showcasing Scotland event is the first large scale event of its type to be run for the Scottish food and drink industry.
