Nuclear Archive At Wick - Pre-Qualification For Contractors Announced
30th September 2014
Pre-qualification to find a contractor to build a new national nuclear archive in Wick has commenced, it has been announced. The total cost of the new archive is in the region of £17 million.
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has stated that the selected contractor will start work on the building in summer 2015.
The premises, which would be located close to Wick Airport, would provide long-term storage for a large number of records as well as other archive material from civil nuclear sites from the 1940s onwards. Eventually, it would hold around 30 million digital, paper and photographic records from civil nuclear sites.
The NDA is planning a bidders day in Penrith, Cumbria, on 1 December for shortlisted contractors where details of the plans will be outlined.
Reiach and Hall architects have designed plans for the proposed archive facility.
PQQ Documentation can be requested from procurement.eoi[AT]nda.gov.uk before the beginning of November.
