Latest figures from the Scottish Retail consortium show Total UK footfall decreased by 15.4% in March (Yo3Y), a 1.2 percentage point improvement from February. This is marginally better than the 3-month average decline of 15.9%.

High Life Highland will be donating over £15,000 to the Disaster Emergency Committee appeal for Ukraine following a weekend of fundraising. In support The Highland Council's Highland Weekend of Action for Ukraine, HLH is sending £15,426 which comes from staff and public donations to the humanitarian appeal.
New funding has been secured for the Spirit of the Highlands and Islands project to create innovative and interactive digital content showcasing people's stories of the region. The grant comes from the Natural and Cultural Heritage Fund (NCHF), led by NatureScot and part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Aberdeen Angus bullocks (472) averaged 232.7p and sold to 320.0p per kilo for a 400kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Ardross Castle, Ardross and £1,500 gross for a 485kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Croft Martin, Insh.

Under the Act, a new Register of Overseas Entities will be created, requiring those behind foreign companies which own UK property to reveal their identities. Companies House is now working to implement the register as quickly as possible, working closely with the UK's 3 land registries.

In the UK, much attention has been paid to the fact that employees' national insurance (NI) contributions have increased from April 6 - from 12% to 13.25% for earnings between £9,880 and £50,270 and then from 2% to 3.25% for earnings above that threshold. It tends to be overlooked, however, that this is only half of the tax rise.

G7 foreign ministers and the High Representative of the European Union issued a joint statement on Russia and Ukraine following a meeting at NATO today, 7 April 2022. We, the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, and the High Representative of the European Union, condemn in the strongest terms the atrocities committed by the Russian armed forces in Bucha and a number of other Ukrainian towns.

The demonstrations of UK equipment were held on Salisbury Plain and were followed by planning for future equipment requirements. UK Defence Ministers hosted a Ukrainian government delegation to Salisbury Plain Training Area this week to consider their equipment requirements and options for further military support, as they continue their defence against Russia's unprovoked and illegal invasion.

The Scottish Government has updated its Broadband charter. Charter consisting of a series of pledges to help extend full fibre broadband across Scotland.
With less than two weeks until the voter registration deadline for local elections in May, the Electoral Registration Officer for Highland & Western Isles urges residents to make sure they are registered in time. Anyone living in Scotland who will be 16 or over on 5 May, can register to vote in these elections.
