New figures show Scotland's unemployment levels fell by 15,000 over the most recent quarter to 123,000, with the rate down 0.5 percentage points to 4.5%. The Labour Market Statistics for December to February 2017, published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that Scotland’s unemployment rate is now below the UK’s which stands at 4.7%.

Today Bill Fernie received a call from someone with an Asian accent saying he was from the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) and began to ask questions about his personal details and bank information etc. Bill said," He asked if I was still receiving unwanted calls and that he could stop them.
Caithness Seacoast Adventure Tours loacated at Wick harbour have started their new season. Seacoast offers a range of short and longer tours of the Caithness coast opens up a special way to see the cliffs that cannot be seen from most places.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (April, 11th) sold 12 prime cattle. Prime bullocks (one) averaged 213.0p (+1.0p) and sold to 213.0p per kg and £1,256.70 gross.

Having been born and brought up in the county, I am well aware of the issues and concerns facing Caithness. I've been involved in various community organisations, local forums and representative groups in the past and am also a former member and treasurer of Wick Community Council.

"I'm standing to be your local councillor because I feel strongly about the community I have lived in all of my life. I couldn't sit by while local people and the communities we live in are being ignored and while key services are being cut or downgraded.
Voters are reminded of the deadlines for both registering to vote and applying to vote by post in the forthcoming Highland Council elections on Thursday 4 May. Registration: To be able to vote in the elections, voters must be 16 years or over on 4 May 2017 and must be registered to vote.

I was born and educated in Thurso, and worked locally in the nuclear industry for sixteen years prior to working for Transocean Ltd for 14 years in the oil industry, and I currently hold the position of Constituency Manager for Dr Paul Monaghan, MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross. I am standing for election because the people of Thurso and North West Caithness clearly feel that they are being forgotten by the Highland Council and let down by the incumbent councillors.

Catherine Patterson Independent Candidate - Wick & East Caithness. Caithness deserves a strong voice to raise concerns and stand up for the area in a positive way.
The elections for the 74 seats on The Highland Council, being held on Thursday 4 May, will involve 165 candidates contesting all of the 21 multi-member wards. Caithness will now only have two wards instead of three.

I have been in Caithness since 25 years when we moved for my mother's job teaching modern languages in primary schools. Unfortunately, I have been without paid employment for some time but have devoted time to community groups and helping the disadvantaged in the county.

I have decided to seek re - election in Thurso and North West Caithness as an Independent candidate as I feel that I do not want to be shackled by the dictate of a political party. Local communities need their voices heard and as an Independent I can do this.

Centralisation in Caithness is damaging for us and our futures. Examples include the illogical new Ward boundaries, loss of emergency control rooms, planning decisions overturned in Edinburgh and the desperate situation with our hospitals/ambulances.

Roger's record I have been proud to represent Thurso as one of your local councillors since 1999, but in May, our ward boundaries are changing. The new ward of Thurso and Northwest Caithness stretches from Reay to Dunnet, Castletown, Bower and Scarfskerry; it includes Scrabster and Halkirk as well as Thurso.
More than 50 small firms in the Highlands and Islands involved in the life science and technology sector were given the opportunity to compete for a share of £400,000 of Scottish Government funding at an event yesterday (5 April). Share The local firms have all signalled their interest in a competition run by the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) by attending a briefing at the HIE's An Lòchran building on the Inverness Campus in Inverness on Tuesday 4th April 2017.

A robot has demolished parts of a site connected with the first reactor to achieve criticality in Scotland almost 60 years ago. The final internal structure has been taken apart at the Dounreay Materials Test Reactor (DMTR) support building complex which now allows the building to be demolished.

The latest list of Bank of Scotland branch closures is once again put down to changing banking habits by customers who are doing more transactions online. The latest wave of Lloyds closures will affect 54 Lloyds bank branches, 22 Halifax branches and 24 Bank of Scotland branches.
