Survey shows businesses heated up by cold calls
Small businesses say cold calls are time-wasting and infuriating….and it's mobile phone companies who top their 'most unwanted' list Telesales cold callers beware - they top the list of annoying phone callers to small businesses, according to a new survey of businesses in Scotland and the rest of Britain. Three our of four businesses in Scotland who took part in the survey said they are pestered by cold calls.23/1/2008
ASDA Get Thumbs Down For Pennyland Farm Site In Thurso
The Highland Council has this week received a note of the Scottish Ministers' decisions on two significant planning applications for retail outlets in Thurso. One was an application by Miller Developments for planning permission for a proposed foodstore at the Auction Mart Site, Ormlie Road, Thurso, which had been called in by Ministers following an appeal against non-determination (deemed refusal) of the application.23/1/2008

Bullocks (308) averaged 135.7p (+4.1) and sold to 168.2p per kg for a pen of eight 318kg Charolais crosses from Torgormack, Kirkhill, and £755 for a pen of 571kg Charolais crosses from Hilton Farm, Tain.23/1/2008
Licensed Premises To Pay Much More for Licences
Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill today gave evidence to Holyrood's Justice Committee on proposed reforms to the licensing system. The fee regulations put forward by Mr MacAskill, under the new Licensing Act, set limits that allow licensing boards to fully recover their costs - whilst also preventing them from making a profit.22/1/2008

Members of The Highland Council's Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey Planning Applications and Review Committee today (15th January 2008) were minded to grant outline planning application by Elphinstone Land Ltd / ASDA Stores for the development of a superstore, petrol filling station, 5 small retail units and associated works on land at Slackbuie Farm, Inverness. The Area Planning & Building Standards Manager, David Polson, is to report back to the next meeting of the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey Planning Applications and Review Committee with a package of conditions and the terms of developer contributions by legal agreement.13/1/2008
