A new collaborative centre, designed to host research and education and attract investment and jobs to the Highlands and Islands, is being discussed by two of the region�s foremost organisations. Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) are proposing to build shared premises at Inverness Campus, the 215-acre site which HIE is developing as a location for business, learning and community activities in the east of the city.
Assessor & ERO�s Office at 3A Bridge Street, Wick remains open for business as usual during the renovations at the Town Hall. The works will take around 8 months to complete but the Assessor�s Office will be open as usual during office hours; 9am-1pm & 2-5pm Monday to Friday.
Leader of The Highland Council Drew Hendry has spoken of the staggering potential of the largest tidal energy project in Europe which is planned off the shores of Caithness. In welcoming guests at the Scottish Renewables Marine Conference at Eden Court, Inverness, on Monday evening, he focused on an announcement made earlier in the day by Scottish Government Energy Minister Fergus Ewing granting consent to MeyGen Ltd to develop the largest tidal turbine array in Europe and the first commercial project off these shores.
The Highland Licensing Board has included a third option to the current on-line consultation currently underway on the options for proposals for the Licensing Board's Overprovision Policy Statement 2013-16. Launched at the start of this month, the consultation invites members of the public to have their say on whether there is an overprovision of licensed premises in any locality within the area of Highland Licensing Board.
Highland Council�s Trading Standards has today launched a new information website service specifically designed for Highland business and trade users. Gordon Robb, Highland Trading Standards Manager explains: �We receive a considerable amount of calls to our free �Business Advice Line� service which covers the whole of the Highland area.
An emergency exercise will be held at Dounreay on Wednesday 18th September 2013. The Dounreay site alarm will be sounded to initiate the exercise and may sound again throughout the duration of the exercise.
The Inverness public is being advised that work will start in earnest from Monday 16 September on the construction of flood walls along the River Ness between the Ness Bridge and Friars Bridge. Police in Highlands and Islands report numbers detected during national seatbelt day of action. Police Scotland Highland and Islands Division report that 33 people were found to be within vehicles without wearing a seatbelt during the national day of action, which ended yesterday morning.
Over 100 business representatives will be attending an ICT suppliers �Industry Day� hosted by The Highland Council in the Thistle Hotel, Inverness on Monday 16 September. The council has arranged the event to provide information about how it will ensure the supply of ICT Services is continued when an existing contract comes to its end in March 2015.

Police in Highland and Islands report numbers of speeding motorists detected around region�s schools in recent initiative. Police Scotland Highland and Islands Division targeted speeding motorists around areas of restricted speed limits close to schools for the first fortnight after returning from the summer holidays, in order to ensure the safety of all school attendees and encourage motorists to drive at lesser speeds.
Subsea 7, a global leader in seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and services to the offshore energy industry, is investing over �5.5million in refurbishing its pipeline Bundle fabrication site at Wick, Caithness. Established in 1978, the fabrication site is located six miles north of Wick, Caithness in the North of Scotland.
The Highland Council�s new Chief Executive, Steve Barron, took over at the helm of the organisation on Monday 2nd September 2013. He replaces Alistair Dodds, who has retired after 22 years with the Council, the last six as Chief Executive.
The Highland Council is to write to Highland MPs to seek their support for a change to the spare room subsidy which would see all communities with a population of 3,000 or less excluded from the provisions in recognition of the absence of the appropriate housing stock to accommodate tenants who wish to move to a smaller house. Councillors have been encouraged by concessions being made by the UK Government on Welfare Reform in the wake of strong representations highlighting flaws in the legislation and are seeking the continuing support of Highland MPs to press the case on the spare room subsidy in Westminster with Lord Freud, Minister for Welfare Reform.
Twenty-one ambitious students who have been bringing fresh knowledge and ideas to companies across the Highlands and Islands gathered in Inverness on Friday 30th August 2013 to present their summer placement project findings to a panel of business experts in a dragons' den style competition. The winner of finals day was Robert Anderson, of Shetland who is studying at Glasgow University.

Week Commencing 26th Aaugust 2013 Energy/ Business Services: Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Ltd (part of the SSE Group) is developing proposals for a new 132kilovolt overhead line between the proposed new Thurso South substation at Geiselittle and a new substation at Phillips Mains near Mey. It has recently published a consultation document on the proposals, which can be viewed at http://www.sse.com/GillsBayRadial/ProjectInformation Two consultation events will be held in Caithness: at Mey Hall on Thursday 5th September 11am-2.30pm and 5pm-7.30pm; and in Caithness Horizons, Thurso on Friday 6th September from 3pm-7.30pm A group of local businesses � including Wick Harbour Authority and Scrabster Harbour Trust - travelled to Lowestoft this week to look in detail at the offshore wind operations base already established there.
A week long summer school was held in late July for students of Thurso, Wick and Farr High School students in 4th, 5th & 6th years to prepare them for the world of work. The course, organised by DSRL (Dounreay Site restoratiopn Ltd) on behalf of the NDA (Nuclear Decommissioning Agency), was supported by North Highland College and Skills Development Scotland.
